SENIOR MANAGER, SOFTWARE ENGINEERING
Walmart
Position Summary...
What you'll do...
About the Team:
Our team owns two strategically critical supply chain platforms – the B2B Integration Platform and Item Tracer – which together power how Walmart connects with suppliers, partners, and internal operational systems at global scale. The B2B Integration Platform serves as Walmart’s enterprise document backbone, enabling the exchange of purchase orders, ASNs, invoices, transportation events, imports data, and financial documents across the partner ecosystem. It processes close to 700 million digital business documents annually and operates in the operational critical path, with a strong focus on Tier-0 reliability while steadily modernizing toward consistent, channel-agnostic integration experiences.
Item Tracer is Walmart’s enterprise traceability and supply chain intelligence platform connecting upstream supplier ecosystems with internal inventory, merchandising, and operational systems. Evolving beyond compliance origins, it now supports multi-category traceability and freshness intelligence use cases that improve data transparency, supplier experiences, dwell time visibility, and operational decision-making.
Together, these platforms sit at the intersection of supplier experience, supply chain execution, and business outcomes, requiring strong collaboration across engineering, product, and business stakeholders globally while continuously balancing operational stability with forward-looking modernization.
What you’ll do:
- Lead, mentor, and grow high-performing engineering teams across India and U.S. time zones; hire, coach, and develop managers and senior engineers while driving strong engagement and retention.
- Own delivery and outcomes for two mission-critical platforms: the B2B Integration Platform (Walmart’s Tier-0 integration spine) and Item Tracer (Walmart’s fast-scaling traceability and inventory signal platform).
- Drive Tier-0 operational excellence for B2B: reliability, availability, latency, incident response readiness, change discipline, and end-to-end observability – while modernizing the platform without disrupting business-critical flows.
- Lead modernization with an outcome-first mindset: evolve architecture, simplify the tech estate, raise engineering standards, and reduce cost of change while keeping partner experience stable.
- Scale Item Tracer with an entrepreneurial, customer-obsessed approach: move fast with sound judgment, create clarity in ambiguity, and translate business problems (freshness, dwell time, shrink/waste) into scalable platform capabilities.
- Influence and align senior stakeholders across Supply Chain, Merchandizing, Supplier Experience, domain platforms, and partner teams; communicate crisply, negotiate tradeoffs, and drive decisions with data.
- Decompose complex problem spaces into iterative delivery plans; partner tightly with architects and technical leaders to design elegant, maintainable solutions and steadily raise the bar on platform quality.
- Model a culture of extreme ownership, humility, and continuous improvement; set expectations, remove blockers, and create an environment where engineers do their best work.
- Establish and continuously improve modern SDLC practices: engineering metrics, quality gates, secure-by-default design, resilient release practices, and operational readiness.
What you’ll bring:
- Strong people leadership track record building and running high-performing engineering teams; demonstrated ability to hire well, coach, set direction, and deliver through others.
- Experience owning or operating business-critical, high-scale platforms with a deep operational mindset (SLOs, observability, incident management, resilience, capacity planning).
- Proven ability to modernize legacy or complex systems safely through incremental, low-risk architecture evolution and strong stakeholder alignment.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with strong communication and negotiation skills; able to establish clarity, craft narratives, and drive outcomes in ambiguous, fast-scaling product environments.
- Excellent collaboration skills across highly varied stakeholders and geographies; effective at building trust, aligning incentives, and working in lockstep with product, architects, and domain teams.
- Strong engineering fundamentals in distributed systems and modern backend architecture (microservices, event-driven patterns, APIs, data modeling, performance, fault tolerance).
- Hands-on familiarity with modern cloud and platform practices (cloud-native services, CI/CD, security fundamentals, reliability engineering); able to guide teams to adopt best practices pragmatically.
- Strong problem decomposition and systems thinking; capable of iteratively delivering elegant solutions without over-engineering.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Engineering (or related) and significant relevant industry experience, or equivalent practical experience.
