About the Team

The AI Foundations team is a global engineering organization within Walmart Global Tech’s AI & Data Org that drives the architecture, vision, strategy, and execution of foundational AI platform products and technologies. Operating out of Bengaluru (IDC), the team aligns all Global Technology functions around AI/ML, Generative AI, Agentic AI — serving hundreds of millions of Walmart customers and associates worldwide.

This team is uniquely positioned at the intersection of Walmart's massive retail scale and frontier AI/ML technology. This team builds and operates the core systems that enable model development, deployment and governance across the

enterprise. They provide shared tooling for training and fine-tuning, evaluation, feature generation and retrieval, model lifecycle management, discovery, lineage and cataloging—ensuring that AI systems are reliable, scalable, compliant, and production-ready. Their mission is to make it easy for teams to build, ship, monitor and manage high-quality AI at scale.

The team operates with startup speed inside one of the world's largest organizations, creating measurable impact for Walmart's end-to-end product lifecycle.

What you'll do...

What you'll do

• Direct end-to-end execution of engineering programs across AI/ML-enhanced solutions

• Oversee development of traditional ML and Gen AI platforms enabling autonomous, adaptive, and contextual behaviour

• Lead AI/ML and Gen AI initiatives and maintain AI governance across the organisation

• Execute the AI Foundations strategy

• Collaborate with Product and Program Management to define, align, and track milestones across roadmaps

• Attract, develop, and retain top engineering talent; mentor senior engineering leaders

• Foster operational excellence and serve as the leader for core Element MLP, AI Catalog and Feature store products in India

• Champion software delivery excellence via CI/CD, observability, and cloud-native technologies

What you'll bring

• Extensive experience in design and development of ML and Gen AI platforms & tooling, software engineering management and solution design, including software architecture and distributed systems.

• Proven ability to analyze and translate complex business and technical requirements into scalable, modular software solutions.

• Functional Skills encompassing understanding of AI/ML and Generative AI platform architecture, knowledge of current technology trends (LLMs, vector databases, data lakehouse, real-time streaming), cloud-native system design at scale (experience with GCP, or Azure), DevOps & CI/CD principles, microservices architecture, software development proficiency with a proven track record building large-scale distributed systems.

• Expertise in driving continuous integration, continuous delivery (CI/CD), telemetry, and automation to enhance software quality and deployment.

• Demonstrated skills in risk analysis, cost analysis, and scoping within agile methodologies.

• Ability to lead cross-functional teams, promote continuous improvement, and align engineering efforts with business strategies.

Minimum Qualifications...

Option 1: Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and6 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
Option 2: 8 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
