About Team:
Returns Engineering team at Walmart Global Tech builds large-scale, resilient platforms that power the returns experience across Walmart’s eCommerce, Fulfilment, and Inventory ecosystems. The team operates at massive scale, solving complex distributed systems challenges and enabling seamless customer and associate experiences. Engineers in this team drive high-impact technical outcomes, own architecture decisions, and contribute to building robust, future-ready platforms.
What you'll do:
- Define and drive end-to-end technical architecture for the Returns platform, ensuring scalability, reliability, and long-term maintainability at Walmart scale
- Own and execute the technical roadmap across key domains including eCommerce, Fulfilment, Inventory, and cross-functional platforms
- Partner with Principal Engineers and Architects to influence organization-wide technology strategy, standards, and best practices
- Lead architecture and design reviews, setting a high bar for system quality, performance, and consistency across teams
- Identify and mitigate systemic risks while solving highly ambiguous and complex engineering challenges
- Act as a technical leader and mentor, guiding senior and mid-level engineers through design, development, and code reviews
- Drive innovation by evaluating emerging technologies, building prototypes, and presenting solutions to senior leadership
- Foster a strong engineering culture by promoting best practices, continuous improvement, and psychological safety across teams
- Take ownership of large-scale technical initiatives and drive alignment across engineering, product, and business stakeholders
What you'll bring:
- B.E/B.Tech/M.Tech/MS in Computer Science or related field
- 10+ years of experience in building large-scale systems using Java/J2EE or any Object-Oriented Programming language
- Strong expertise in distributed systems, high-concurrency system design, multi-threading, and functional programming
- Proven ability to architect and deliver fault-tolerant, scalable systems with significant business impact
- Deep understanding of computer science fundamentals including data structures, algorithms, and system design
- Hands-on experience with distributed databases, Kafka, microservices, and event-driven architectures
- Expertise in cloud-native technologies across Azure, AWS, or GCP environments
- Strong experience in defining engineering standards, CI/CD pipelines, testing strategies, and operational excellence practices
- Ability to lead cross-team initiatives, influence without authority, and drive consensus through clear technical communication
- Experience in platform modernization, architectural transformation, and large-scale engineering programs
- Exposure to information retrieval, statistics, or machine learning is a plus
