Distinguished Engineer – Kubernetes Platform

Job Summary

We are looking for a Distinguished Engineer to lead and shape the future of our Kubernetes platform at Walmart Global Tech. This is a high-impact role focused on driving technical vision and execution at scale across one of the largest and most complex platform ecosystems.

You will define the long-term architecture and evolution of a next-generation Kubernetes platform powering massive workloads across AI/ML, data, and mission-critical applications. Operating at the intersection of distributed systems, large-scale infrastructure, and GPU acceleration, you will solve complex challenges at unprecedented scale while influencing platform direction across teams and domains.

In this role, you will lead the design of cloud-native, scalable, and resilient systems, and drive adoption of automation and next-generation platform capabilities, including AI-driven innovations. You will establish patterns that improve reliability, scalability, and developer productivity, while aligning teams and standardizing platform architecture across the organization.

As a senior technical leader, you will translate strategy into architecture, mentor engineers, and foster a culture of innovation and excellence, playing a critical role in reducing operational complexity and enabling the next generation of platform capabilities at Walmart scale.

About the team

  • Own the architecture of a large-scale Kubernetes platform, solving complex distributed systems challenges in scalability, reliability, and high availability at Walmart scale.
  • Drive the technical direction for platform evolution, building systems that are scalable, secure, and highly automated, with a focus on operational excellence and developer productivity.
  • Influence engineering across the organization, guiding technical decisions, mentoring engineers, and driving adoption of modern platform capabilities and automation, including AI-driven enhancements where applicable.

  • Deep expertise in large-scale Kubernetes and distributed systems, with hands-on experience building and operating platforms that run mission-critical workloads across regions.
  • Proven ability to define architecture and drive technical direction across teams, with strong judgment in scaling, reliability, security, and system design trade-offs.
  • Track record of building efficient, automated platforms, with experience improving scheduling, resource utilization, and operational simplicity along with an interest in applying AI-driven approaches where they add real value.

Option 2: 8 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

Master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 4 years' experience in software engineering or related area, We value candidates with a background in creating inclusive digital experiences, demonstrating knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.
