Position Summary...

The Control Room Associate (Administrator III – Technology Operations) is responsible for monitoring and managing enterprise batch processing, mainframe systems, and critical infrastructure operations to ensure system stability and SLA adherence. This role involves real-time monitoring, incident management, troubleshooting, and coordination with cross-functional teams to support business-critical operations across multiple environments. The associate acts as a key operational resource, ensuring timely resolution of issues, executing system changes, and maintaining high service availability.

About Team:

Our team is dedicated to driving innovation and operational excellence within Walmart Global Tech. Associates on shift are responsible for ensuring that our critical batch flows run successfully and are completed before their Service Level Agreements (SLAs). Team members monitor over 250,000 jobs daily, working collaboratively to ensure all restarts and validations are performed with 100% accuracy prior to any restart. Additionally, associates maintain the stability and health of mainframe systems, implementing maintenance and upgrades as needed. ServiceNow is utilized for incident logging and tracking, supporting efficient resolution and documentation of operational issues

What You'll Do:

  • Monitor and manage daily control room operations, including alerts, batch job abends, and incident handling, following established SOPs.

  • Operate and manage Control-M for holding, releasing, and restarting batch jobs.

  • Monitor and support 350+ critical batch flows, ensuring SLA adherence and prioritization of workloads.

  • Perform z/OS system monitoring, log analysis, and troubleshooting across 10+ sysplex environments.

  • Execute IPLs (Initial Program Loads), Stand Alone Dumps (SAD), and system/task restarts as required.

  • Monitor z/VM environments supporting data center systems across multiple LPARs.

  • Utilize tools such as HMC, HCM, GDPS, BMC (Mainview, AMI Ops) for system operations and diagnostics.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve batch job failures (abends), achieving high First Call Resolution (FCR) and meeting MTTR targets.

  • Create, update, and manage incident tickets and RITMs in ServiceNow, including approvals for change requests.

  • Escalate incidents based on severity (P4–P1) and actively participate in war rooms for critical issues.

  • Provide operational support for data centers (DCs), including batch issues, label/printer troubleshooting, and system queries.

  • Support and execute change management activities, including maintenance implementations and batch scheduling updates.

  • Collaborate with SMEs, infrastructure, and application teams to resolve recurring issues and improve documentation/processes.

  • Handle intake requests via phone, email, and chat platforms (Zoom, Teams, Slack), meeting response time SLAs.

  • Conduct shift handovers and turnover meetings, documenting operational updates and incidents in Confluence.

  • Support audit and compliance activities (ACR reporting) to ensure business continuity.

  • Facilitate and support data center power outage activities and maintenance events.

  • Monitor system health tools (e.g., Chronos) and resolve application ID failures.

  • Act as a technical lead for training, providing guidance and expertise across control room operations.

What You'll Bring:

  • 3+ years of experience in mainframe operations / control room / technology operations.

  • Hands-on experience with z/OS systems and batch processing environments.

  • Experience working with Control-M or similar job scheduling tools.

  • Familiarity with ServiceNow for incident and change management.

  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills in high-pressure environments.

  • Ability to work in 24x7 shift-based operations, including night shifts

  • Experience with GDPS, HMC, HCM, BMC tools (Mainview, AMI Ops).

  • Knowledge of DB2, IMS, and mainframe-based applications.

  • Proficiency in JCL (Job Control Language).

  • Experience supporting data center operations and infrastructure environments.

  • Exposure to z/VM systems and multi-sysplex environments.

  • Prior experience in handling major incidents and war room coordination.

  • Familiarity with collaboration tools such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Slack.
