Position Summary...

Drives the execution of multiple business plans and projects by identifying customer and operational needs; developing and communicating business plans and priorities; removing barriers and obstacles that impact performance; providing resources; identifying performance standards; measuring progress and adjusting performance accordingly; developing contingency plans; and demonstrating adaptability and supporting continuous learning. What you'll do...

About the team

This position is for Hawkshaw platform under Messaging and Streaming pillar part of Data services business with-in GTP org. Hawkshaw is a walmart home grown serverless SOX approved Audit and Reconciliation tool that can manage platform audits and reconciles data pipelines. It provides a platform to ensure the complete, accurate, and timely transfer of data between systems.

What You’ll Do

  • Design and build highly scalable distributed systems using Java, Python, ReactJS, Vertx.

• Drive architecture, design, implementation, and operational readiness of platform capabilities from concept to production.

• Build customer-facing platform capabilities that enable self-service onboarding, simplified configuration, and seamless deployment experiences.

• Bring automation and enhance existing integrations for enterprise data platforms.

• Develop reusable platform components, frameworks, and APIs that improve engineering productivity across multiple teams.

• Design fault-tolerant, low-latency flows capable of handling large-scale production workloads.

• Collaborate closely with product managers, architects, customer teams, and partner engineering organisations to deliver end-to-end solutions.

• Participate in design reviews, code reviews, operational excellence initiatives, and mentoring of junior engineers.

• Improve platform scalability, reliability, observability, and cost efficiency through performance optimisations and architectural improvements.

• Diagnose complex production issues involving distributed systems, streaming workloads, checkpointing, backpressure, data skew, and infrastructure dependencies.

• Drive engineering best practices around testing, automation, deployment, monitoring, and production readiness.

• Take ownership of services running in production, including on-call support, incident response, root cause analysis, and continuous reliability improvements.

What You’ll bring

• 10+ years of software engineering experience building large-scale distributed systems.

  • Bachelors/Masters degree on computer science, software engineering or related area

• Strong programming experience in Java & ReactJS.

• Experience with distributed stream processing frameworks such as:

• Working with relational databases like MSSQL

• Working with non relational databases like Cassandra

• Working with messaging systems like Apache Kafka

• Strong understanding of distributed systems concepts including:

• fault tolerance.

• checkpointing.

• partitioning strategies.

• backpressure.

• state management.

• high availability.

• Experience designing cloud-native micro services and REST APIs.

• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and cloud platforms.

• Experience building highly available production systems with strong observability using metrics, dashboards, logging, and alerting.

• Strong knowledge of software design patterns, concurrent programming, and scalable system design.

• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and infrastructure automation.

• Strong debugging and performance tuning skills for distributed applications.

• Excellent communication skills with the ability to work across multiple engineering organisations and customer teams.

• Demonstrated ownership mindset with experience driving projects independently from design through production rollout.

Nice to have

• Experience building enterprise data integration or ETL platforms.

• Experience working with messaging systems & storage (Presto, Kafka, GCS, Presto, Trino etc).

• Experience building software development kit & open source projects.

• Experience building developer platforms or self-service infrastructure.
