What you'll do...
Role summary:As a Staff Software Engineer, you will lead the design and delivery of scalable platform capabilities, driving the full software development lifecycle from coding to deployment and maintenance. You will apply cloud-native architecture principles and integrate AI/ML technologies to build innovative solutions that enhance engineering productivity and system resilience. This role requires strong technical leadership, mentorship, and collaboration across teams to ensure alignment with business goals and architectural standards. You will influence technical decisions, promote engineering excellence, and continuously improve processes to support Walmart’s strategic objectives.

Our team collaborates with Walmart International, supporting over 5,900 retail locations across 26 countries. We deliver efficient inventory management and store operations applications that empower thousands of store associates. Focused on innovation and collaboration, we apply cloud-native architecture and software design principles to build scalable, resilient solutions. Emphasizing mentorship, problem solving, and data-driven decision making, we enhance platform capabilities and developer productivity. Together, we drive continuous improvement and deliver impactful technology that supports global retail operations and advances Walmart’s commitment to operational excellence.
What you'll do:
- Deliver platform capabilities including infrastructure, tooling, and ML frameworks aligned with roadmap milestones and domain priorities.
- Drive full software development lifecycle activities such as coding, testing, deployment, monitoring, and maintenance.
- Apply cloud-native architecture principles to ensure scalable, resilient, and agile systems.
- Conduct system design reviews to validate feasibility and ensure alignment with architectural best practices.
- Build AI-driven applications and integrate ML components to support automation and multi-step reasoning.
- Mentor engineers, influence technical decisions, and promote engineering excellence through documentation and knowledge sharing.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to translate complex problems into actionable technical requirements and track success metrics.
What you'll bring:
- 10+ years of working experience in Java/J2EE, 3+ years with Kafka, NoSQL DB.
- High expectations of yourself for innovation and execution.
- Proven expertise in cloud-native architecture, including microservices, containers, and automation to build scalable, resilient systems.
- Strong proficiency in design patterns, API design, and platform development to deliver high-quality solutions.
- Experience leading full SDLC activities, including coding, testing, CI/CD deployment, and maintenance.
- Ability to conduct system design reviews, apply technical judgment to ensure alignment with architectural best practices.
- Skilled in mentoring engineers and fostering technical growth within teams.
- Data-driven decision-making skills to define metrics and optimize engineering processes.
- Adaptability to evolving technologies and collaborative communication across cross-functional teams.

The annual salary range for this position is $110,000.00 - $220,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :
