About Team:

The Enterprise Catalog platform team supports building high-quality omni channel catalog and platform components that make our sellers and suppliers successful by onboarding products and create a large set of assortments and enabling it to be served to our customers. Team is growing across Enterprise to scale and adopt to various international markets, and make Walmart grown across all markets. Critical goal of this role is to adopt platform to all international markets, build market specific features with a platform mindset, manage stakeholders through the adoption journey and provide enriched, high-quality catalog to millions of Walmart customers across global.

What you'll do:

The Senior Director of Software Engineering is a senior technology and people leader responsible for driving global strategy, delivery excellence, and organizational maturity.

This role is pivotal during a period of significant scale and transformation, requiring a leader who can balance visionary platform leadership, GenAI-driven innovation, operational rigor, and people leadership across large, globally distributed organizations. The Senior Director will partner closely with product, business, and operations leaders to deliver scalable, resilient, AI-enabled, and business-critical platforms, while building a strong and sustainable leadership pipeline for the future.

Key Responsibilities & Candidate Expectations

  • Lead the engineering strategy and execution for Walmart’s global Catalog Platform, driving adoption across international markets while ensuring alignment with enterprise technology strategy.
  • Own end-to-end delivery for international catalog adoption, content quality, offer management, and eligibility services, ensuring consistent platform capabilities across all markets.
  • Champion a platform-first mindset, driving maximum reuse of enterprise capabilities while ensuring market-specific enhancements are contributed back to the core platform for global scalability and long-term maintainability.
  • Partner closely with Product, Business, Data Science, Architecture, and Market leadership to influence roadmaps, prioritize investments, and deliver measurable business outcomes.
  • Build trusted relationships with senior executives and cross-functional stakeholders, effectively managing competing priorities and aligning diverse teams toward common goals.
  • Demonstrate agility in responding to evolving business needs, balancing strategic initiatives with operational priorities while making sound, data-driven decisions.
  • Lead a high-performing engineering organization by developing leaders, fostering technical excellence, promoting engineering best practices, and creating a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Drive engineering excellence through modern software development practices, including architecture governance, automation, reliability, observability, security, and operational excellence.
  • Establish measurable quality goals for catalog content and platform health, leveraging data, AI/ML, and engineering insights to continuously improve customer and seller experiences.
  • Serve as the engineering leader for complex, multi-market initiatives, ensuring timely execution, risk mitigation, and alignment across globally distributed teams.

What you'll bring:

  • 18+ years of experience in technology leadership, with significant experience leading large, global organizations.
  • Proven experience building and scaling enterprise platforms using Java/Kotlin, Spring Boot, Microservices, REST/gRPC APIs, Event-Driven Architecture (Kafka/Pub-Sub), and Cloud (GCP/Azure).
  • Strong understanding of distributed systems, platform engineering, data-intensive applications, CI/CD, DevSecOps, SRE principles, observability, and cloud-native architectures.
  • Experience leading engineering teams delivering high-scale, globally distributed, mission-critical platforms with a focus on performance, resilience, and scalability.
  • Exposure to AI/ML-driven data quality, search, recommendation, or catalog/content management systems is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead large engineering organizations (80+ engineers), influence without authority, manage organizational change, and deliver results in a fast-paced, matrixed enterprise environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate business strategy into technology execution and measurable outcomes.
  • Deep experience in people leadership, organizational design, and leadership development.

Option 1: Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 7 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
Option 2: 9 years’ experience in software engineering or related area. 4 years’ supervisory experience.
