Position Summary...

About Team:
The Search DevOps team at Walmart is responsible for enabling reliable, scalable, and efficient operations for eCommerce Search across Walmart’s platforms. We work in a fast-paced environment where availability, performance, automation, and operational excellence are critical to delivering a seamless customer search experience.
As a member of this team, you will work on platform capabilities, DevOps automation, performance engineering, observability, and tools that support the full lifecycle of Search systems — from development and deployment to monitoring, incident response, and continuous improvement.
The Search DevOps team also drives engineering productivity and operational intelligence through internal tooling, performance testing frameworks, CI/CD improvements, application monitoring, and AI/agentic solutions that help accelerate RCA, reduce manual toil, and improve the reliability of Search services at scale.
What you’ll do:
- Understand customer, associate and business problems in Search, DevOps and platform engineering, and define technology solutions with clear success metrics.
- Deliver platform capabilities by building and maintaining shared infrastructure, tooling and automation that support system-level and team-level execution.
- Align engineering work with roadmap milestones, domain priorities and operational excellence goals.
- Architect, design, build and deploy scalable, reliable and reusable software solutions for Search platform and DevOps use cases.
- Improve platform standardization, reusability and scalability across Search systems and engineering workflows.
- Build and maintain high-quality backend services, automation frameworks and engineering tools using languages such as Java, Python, Go or similar backend technologies.
- Implement and improve CI/CD, deployment automation, DevOps practices and production-readiness processes.
- Build strong observability capabilities through application monitoring, metrics, logs, dashboards, alerts and operational reviews.
- Analyze COE items, production issues, operational gaps and platform risks, and drive corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Assess and remediate vulnerabilities, compliance gaps and operational risks in partnership with platform, security and engineering teams.
- Apply AI/ML or agentic capabilities where appropriate to improve operational workflows, RCA, monitoring, engineering productivity and platform intelligence.
- Raise the bar on sustainable engineering through best practices, clean code, strong documentation, code structure reviews, testing, monitoring and maintainable design.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers by guiding design decisions, reviewing code, sharing knowledge and promoting engineering standards.
What you’ll bring:
- 10+ years of experience designing, building and maintaining scalable software systems, platform capabilities, shared infrastructure or engineering tooling.
- Strong experience as an individual contributor providing technical leadership, mentorship and ownership for complex engineering initiatives.
- Strong understanding of customer/associate problem definition, metrics, platform mindset and product-driven engineering.
- Strong system design experience with focus on scalability, performance, reliability, non-functional requirements and platform standardization.
- Hands-on experience with backend programming languages such as Java, Python, Go
- Strong software engineering fundamentals including code structure, edge-case handling, maintainable design, testing and code reviews.
- Experience building and operating microservices, APIs, distributed systems, shared platforms or developer productivity tooling.
- Strong experience with full lifecycle development, including design, development, validation, deployment, monitoring, support and continuous improvement.
- Experience implementing DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, release automation, deployment governance and operational readiness.
- Experience with application monitoring, observability, production support, COE analysis, incident review and corrective actions.
- Experience with unit testing, functional testing, integration testing and load testing.
- Experience assessing and remediating vulnerabilities, compliance gaps and platform risks.
- Experience applying AI/ML integration or agentic capabilities to engineering, operational or platform use cases is preferred.
- Ability to independently analyze complex technical problems and develop innovative, scalable and reusable solutions.
- Strong collaboration, communication, technical judgment and change agility.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers, share best practices, showcase engineering demos and promote continuous learning.
