About Team:
The Acquisition and Discovery Engineering team at Walmart is dedicated to providing a seamless and delightful shopping experience to millions of shoppers worldwide. As a senior software engineer in this team, you will have the opportunity to work on top of the funnel shopping experience – Homepage, Content Pages for SEO and SEM, Search & Browse experiences, Deals and Item pages across mobile and web platforms.
This collaborative team made up of Engineering, UX, Product Management, Business and Analytics is rapidly iterating on new products and site features at scale. We deliver high performing solutions on our next generation front-end platform. Virtual Try-On, Gen AI integration, personalized complete-the-look, Video shopping, etc are just a few examples of the features developed by this team in collaboration with many other teams. What you'll do:
As a Senior Software Engineer, you’ll lead the development of world-class Android
applications that power Walmart’s e-commerce experience. You will:
- Design and build scalable, high-performance Android applications using modern design patterns and technologies.
- Collaborate with product managers, designers, and backend engineers to deliver seamless, secure, and intuitive mobile experiences.
- Drive technical excellence through code reviews, design sessions, and mentoring junior engineers.
- Own end-to-end feature delivery—from ideation and prototyping to deployment and production monitoring.
- Optimize app performance, reliability, and battery efficiency using profiling tools and crash analytics.
- Troubleshoot complex production issues leveraging observability platforms like OpenObserve.
- Design and implement modular architectures that integrate with GraphQL APIs and microservices backends.
- Implement and maintain automation testing frameworks for unit, functional, and end-to-end (E2E)testing to ensure high-quality releases.
- Evaluate and integrate third-party SDKs and APIs to enhance app functionality and customer engagement.
- Champion continuous improvement in development processes, tools, and technologies.
- Stay current with Android’s ecosystem, SW trends, and emerging technologies to inform strategic decisions.
- Leverage AI-powered development tools (e.g., Claude, Cursor, Copilot) to improve engineering efficiency and code quality.
What you'll bring:
- Bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
- 5+ years of experience building Android applications using Kotlin, Java, and modern architectural patterns (MVVM, MVI, MVP, Clean Architecture).
- Strong proficiency in Kotlin including Coroutines, Flow (StateFlow/SharedFlow), and modern async programming techniques and expertise with Android SDK, Jetpack libraries
- Experience integrating with backend APIs (REST, GraphQL, JSON, HTTP) and familiarity with Node.js / Rust services.
- Deep understanding of software design principles, data structures, algorithms, and distributed systems.
- Strong debugging, performance monitoring, and optimization skills, including memory management and app stability improvement.
- Proficiency in writing unit and UI tests, automating workflows, and conducting code reviews to maintain code quality.
- Working Knowledge of code quality tooling(Detekt, Android Lint, SonarQube)
- Familiarity with third-party libraries and dependency managers (Gradle, Maven Central).
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines(GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or equivalent), A/B testing.
- Ability to translate wireframes and designs into pixel-perfect views using Jetpack Compose, ConstraintLayout and Material Design guidelines.
- Excellent collaboration and decision-making skills in fast-paced, cross-functional environments.
