What you'll do...

About the team

Walmart GTP team is the Platforms team for Walmart. This position is for Data Services First Contact team – where the team is responsible to take care of support & operational activities for Search products viz., Elastic Search, Open Search & Solr. Building automations for mandane tasks & amplifying operational excellence is the main focus for the team.

This team works in rotational shift which changes in every two weeks.

Shift timings:

  • Morning Shift - 4am to 2 pm.
  • Evening Shift - 12 pm to 8pm
  • Night shift - 8pm to 4 am.

What You’ll Do

Automation Engineering

Design, develop, and maintain automation solutions to eliminate repetitive manual tasks across engineering workflows.

Leverage scripting/coding languages (Java,Python, Shell,SQL etc.) and automation frameworks to increase engineering efficiency and consistency.

Knowledge of AI-powered developer productivity tools e.g., GitHub Copilot, Generative AI tools and Large Language Model (LLM) concepts, Prompt engineering techniques for code generation, debugging, ML/AI frameworks at a working level, Vector databases, embeddings, and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), MLOps.Proactively identify candidates for automation across operations, deployments, and testing pipelines.

  • Triaging & Issue Resolution - Analyze, prioritize, and resolve technical issues for products (Elastic Search, Open Search, Solr) of moderate to high complexity with a strong sense of ownership.
  • Support Customers on product issues.
  • Work on operational change requests. Familiar with tools like JIRA, Service NOW, Splunk, Grafana, MMS.

Incident Management

Cloud, Data & DevOps - Leverage DevOps toolchains for CI/CD, container orchestration, and application lifecycle management.

What You’ll bring

· Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent practical experience.

· 6+ years of hands-on software development & platform engineering experience.

· Proficiency in : Java, Python for production-grade development.

· Work experience in Search products viz., Elastic Search, Solr & Open Search is a big plus.

· Experience with monitoring and observability platforms such as Splunk, Grafana, Kibana, or OpenObserve.

· Experience with cloud platforms — Azure, GCP, or AWS — including managed services and infrastructure-as-code.

· Hands-on experience with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions).

· Familiarity with Kubernetes and container-based application deployment at scale.

· Experience with incident management processes, ITSM tools (e.g., ServiceNow, PagerDuty, XMatters, JIRA), and SLA-driven operations.

· Working knowledge of configuration management tools and release management processes.

· Solid understanding of automation tooling and scripting (Shell, Python).

· Exposure to network monitoring concepts, SLIs/SLOs, and alerting frameworks.

· Experience working with data engineering pipelines or data platform infrastructure (e.g., Spark, BigQuery, Kafka).

· Knowledge of security best practices — vulnerability management, RBAC, secret management.

· Understanding of Agile/Scrum methodologies, sprint planning, and backlog grooming.

· Familiarity with requirement management practices including traceability matrices and risk classification.

· Ability to work in rotational/shift models (24/7) and support on-call escalations.

· Strong written and verbal communication skills for customer handling, technical documentation and stakeholder collaboration.

· Prior experience mentoring junior engineers or leading technical discussions in a team setting.
