About the Team

The Network Operations L2 team is responsible for ensuring the stability, performance, scalability, and operational excellence of Walmart’s global enterprise network infrastructure. The team supports mission-critical environments across:

  • Walmart Stores Network (Wired & Wireless)

  • Distribution Center (DC) Networks

  • Data Center Networks

  • Global WAN (GWAN)

  • DDI Services (DNS, DHCP, IPAM)

This organization drives operational reliability, incident management, problem resolution, automation, observability, and continuous improvement across one of the world’s largest retail networks.

What You’ll Do

We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic Senior Manager – Network Engineering to lead the L2 Network Operations organization responsible for Walmart’s global network infrastructure. This role will lead high-performing engineering and operations teams supporting enterprise-scale wired, wireless, WAN, DDI, and data center network environments.

The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise, strong people leadership, operational rigor, and a passion for automation and reliability engineering. This leader will partner closely with L1 Operations, Engineering, Architecture, Security, Cloud, Store Infrastructure, and vendor partners to ensure resilient and scalable network services for Walmart’s business-critical operations.

Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead and mentor multiple teams of network engineers responsible for L2 support and operational excellence.

  • Drive a culture of accountability, ownership, innovation, and continuous improvement.

  • Manage team capacity, skill development, hiring, succession planning, and performance management.

  • Establish operational KPIs, SLAs, and SLOs for network services and support functions.

  • Lead major incident management (MIM) bridges and executive communications during critical outages.

Network Operations & Reliability

  • Own operational support for:

    • Store wired and wireless networks

    • Distribution Center networking infrastructure

    • Data Center networking environments

    • GWAN connectivity

    • DDI platforms (DNS, DHCP, IPAM)

  • Ensure high availability and performance of enterprise network services across global environments.

  • Drive proactive monitoring, event correlation, root cause analysis, and problem management.

  • Lead post-incident reviews and implement preventive and corrective actions.

Technical Leadership

  • Provide deep technical guidance across routing, switching, wireless, WAN, DDI, and network security technologies.

  • Partner with architecture and engineering teams on new deployments, migrations, and modernization initiatives.

  • Review and approve operational readiness for infrastructure changes and releases.

Automation & Process Improvement

  • Champion automation initiatives through inhouse automation tools.

  • Improve operational efficiency through tooling, dashboards, self-healing workflows, and runbook automation.

  • Standardize operational processes and governance across network domains.

  • Enhance observability using monitoring and analytics platforms.

Stakeholder & Vendor Management

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Security, Cloud, SRE, Infrastructure, and Store Technology.

  • Manage relationships with OEMs, telecom providers, and managed service partners.

  • Communicate operational health, risks, and strategic initiatives to senior leadership.

What you’ll bring:

  • 12+ years of experience in enterprise network engineering and operations.

  • 5+ years of experience leading large-scale global network operations teams.

  • Strong expertise in:

    • Enterprise routing & switching

    • Wireless networking technologies

    • SD-WAN / WAN technologies

    • Data Center networking

    • DDI solutions

    • Network monitoring and observability platforms

  • Hands-on experience with Cisco, Juniper, Versa, Infoblox, or equivalent technologies.

  • Strong understanding of:

    • TCP/IP

    • BGP, OSPF, EIGRP

    • VXLAN/EVPN

    • WLAN architectures

    • DNS/DHCP/IPAM

    • Network security fundamentals

  • Experience with driving automation through automation team

  • Proven experience managing critical incidents and driving RCA/problem management processes.

  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and executive presentation skills.

  • Experience supporting large retail or enterprise-scale environments.

  • Familiarity with ITIL processes and ServiceNow workflows.

  • Experience leading globally distributed teams in 24x7 operational environments.

  • Strong operational mindset with a passion for reliability and customer experience.

  • Ability to balance strategic thinking with deep technical problem solving.

  • Proven track record of leading transformation and automation initiatives.

  • Experience scaling operations for highly distributed enterprise environments.

  • Ability to influence cross-functional teams and drive organizational alignment.
