Position Summary...

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Network Engineer III to join the Network Operations L2 organization. This role will act as an experienced technical resource supporting complex network incidents, infrastructure reliability, operational excellence, and automation initiatives across Walmart’s enterprise network ecosystem.
The ideal candidate will possess strong expertise in enterprise networking technologies, advanced troubleshooting capabilities, operational ownership, and a passion for improving network reliability and operational efficiency at scale.

About the Team

The Network Operations L2 team is responsible for supporting and maintaining Walmart’s large-scale global network infrastructure across stores, distribution centers, data centers, WAN, and core infrastructure services. The team ensures operational excellence, high availability, rapid incident response, and continuous improvement across mission-critical enterprise networking environments.

The team supports:

  • Store Networks (Wired & Wireless)
  • Distribution Center (DC) Networks
  • Data Center Networks
  • Global WAN (GWAN)

DDI Infrastructure (DNS, DHCP, IPAM)

What You’ll Do

Network Operations & Incident Management

  • Provide L2 operational support for Walmart’s global network infrastructure including:
    • Store wired and wireless networks
    • Distribution Center networking
    • Data Center networking
    • GWAN connectivity
    • DDI platforms (DNS, DHCP, IPAM)
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex network incidents impacting business-critical services.
  • Participate in major incident management (MIM) calls and drive technical resolution activities.
  • Perform root cause analysis (RCA) and implement corrective/preventive actions.
  • Collaborate with L1 operations teams for escalations, mentoring, and knowledge transfer.

Technical Leadership

  • Serve as a subject matter expert for routing, switching, wireless, WAN, and DDI technologies.
  • Support infrastructure upgrades, migrations, deployments, and operational readiness activities.
  • Review network changes and ensure operational compliance and risk mitigation.
  • Work closely with architecture, engineering, security, and cloud teams to support new initiatives.

Reliability & Continuous Improvement

  • Drive operational excellence through proactive monitoring, observability, and performance optimization.
  • Identify recurring issues and implement long-term fixes to improve network stability.
  • Develop and maintain operational runbooks, SOPs, troubleshooting guides, and knowledge articles.
  • Participate in on-call rotation and support 24x7 production operations when required.

Automation & Innovation

  • Develop and enhance automation solutions using in-house automation tools.
  • Improve operational efficiency through self-healing workflows and automated remediation.
  • Support telemetry, monitoring, and analytics initiatives for enhanced network visibility.
  • Contribute to process standardization and operational modernization initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field.
  • 5–7 years of experience in enterprise network engineering and operations.
  • Strong hands-on experience in:
    • Enterprise routing and switching
    • Wireless networking technologies
    • WAN/SD-WAN environments
    • Data Center networking
    • DNS, DHCP, and IPAM solutions
  • Expertise with technologies and platforms such as:
    • Cisco
    • Juniper
    • Versa
    • Infoblox
  • Strong understanding of:
    • TCP/IP
    • BGP, OSPF, EIGRP
    • VLANs, STP, HSRP/VRRP
    • VXLAN/EVPN
    • WLAN architectures
    • DNS/DHCP/IPAM
  • Experience troubleshooting large-scale enterprise network environments.
  • Hands-on experience with automation/scripting using Python, Ansible, REST APIs, or equivalent tools.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting large retail or globally distributed enterprise environments.
  • Experience with network monitoring and observability platforms.
  • Familiarity with ITIL processes and ServiceNow workflows.
  • Exposure to SRE practices and operational excellence methodologies.
