Role summary:The Principal Software Engineer leads platform engineering efforts by delivering scalable, cloud-native solutions and reusable infrastructure components that support long-term technical roadmaps. This role drives the full software development lifecycle across multiple teams, integrating AI/ML capabilities and ensuring high availability and reliability. The position requires strategic technical leadership, mentorship, and collaboration with cross-functional stakeholders to translate complex business needs into actionable engineering outcomes. The team developed Walmart Luminate, a platform offering actionable, customer-centric insights that empower CPGs and Walmart merchants to make informed, data-driven decisions efficiently. Emphasizing technical strategy, reliability engineering, scalability, and cloud-native architecture, the group builds innovative solutions. What you'll do:
- Lead platform engineering efforts, delivering scalable infrastructure, reusable tooling, and AI/ML frameworks aligned with strategic roadmaps.
- Drive full software development lifecycle across multiple teams, ensuring high availability, fault tolerance, and real-time data processing.
- Architect and integrate intelligent AI-enhanced applications using cloud-native principles and model-driven design.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship, influencing architectural standards and promoting engineering excellence.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to define technical requirements and success metrics, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
- Foster continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance processes, tools, and product quality.
What you'll bring:
- Extensive experience in platform engineering leadership, delivering scalable, cloud-native architectures and reusable tooling.
- Proven ability to drive full software development lifecycle, including CI/CD, testing, monitoring, and incident response.
- Expertise in designing distributed systems optimized for real-time data processing and AI/ML integration.
- Strong technical judgment with a focus on maintainability, scalability, and long-term architectural alignment.
- Demonstrated leadership in mentoring engineers and influencing cross-team architectural decisions.
- Proficiency in AI agent integration and model-driven design to enhance development velocity and quality.
- Effective collaboration skills with cross-functional stakeholders to translate business needs into technical solutions.

The annual salary range for this position is $143,000.00 - $286,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :
