The Principal Software Engineer leads platform engineering efforts by delivering scalable, cloud-native solutions and reusable infrastructure components that support long-term technical roadmaps. This role drives the full software development lifecycle across multiple teams, integrating AI/ML capabilities and ensuring high availability and reliability. The team developed Walmart Luminate, a platform offering actionable, customer-centric insights that empower CPGs and Walmart merchants to make informed, data-driven decisions efficiently. Emphasizing technical strategy, reliability engineering, scalability, and cloud-native architecture, the group builds innovative solutions. Members engage in operational due diligence and continuous improvement, fostering a culture of learning and excellence to support Walmart’s commitment to delivering value through advanced data capabilities and cutting-edge technology.
What you'll do:

• Lead platform engineering efforts, delivering scalable infrastructure, reusable tooling, and AI/ML frameworks aligned with strategic roadmaps.
• Drive full software development lifecycle across multiple teams, ensuring high availability, fault tolerance, and real-time data processing.
• Architect and integrate intelligent AI-enhanced applications using cloud-native principles and model-driven design.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship, influencing architectural standards and promoting engineering excellence.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to define technical requirements and success metrics, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
• Foster continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance processes, tools, and product quality.

What you'll bring:

• Extensive experience in platform engineering leadership, delivering scalable, cloud-native architectures and reusable tooling.
• Proven ability to drive full software development lifecycle, including CI/CD, testing, monitoring, and incident response.
• Expertise in designing distributed systems optimized for real-time data processing and AI/ML integration.
• Strong technical judgment with a focus on maintainability, scalability, and long-term architectural alignment.
• Demonstrated leadership in mentoring engineers and influencing cross-team architectural decisions.
• Proficiency in AI agent integration and model-driven design to enhance development velocity and quality.
• Effective collaboration skills with cross-functional stakeholders to translate business needs into technical solutions.

The annual salary range for this position is $143,000.00 - $286,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :
