The Health & Wellness Engineering team at Walmart is on a mission to make healthcare more accessible, affordable, and convenient for millions of customers across the US. We build the technology that powers Walmart's pharmacy, specialty pharmacy, and wellness platforms spanning prescription management, clinical workflows, patient-facing digital experiences, and health program delivery. Our systems process millions of prescriptions annually and connect patients, pharmacists, prescribers, and payers in real time. The team operates at the intersection of technology and healthcare, building platforms that have a direct, measurable impact on patient outcomes and community health.

What you'll do:

As a Senior Manager, Software Engineering for Walmart Health & Wellness, you'll have the opportunity to:

• Lead and grow multiple engineering teams delivering mission-critical pharmacy and health platform capabilities — setting technical direction, owning the engineering roadmap, and driving end-to-end program delivery
• Partner closely with product management, clinical operations, UX, data science, and SRE teams to align engineering priorities with business goals and patient outcomes
• Own the architectural direction for your domain — drive decisions on system design, technology choices, platform scalability, and long-term technical strategy in collaboration with principal and staff engineers
• Establish and uphold engineering excellence standards across teams — code quality, CI/CD maturity, observability, incident response, security, and technical debt management
• Ensure all platforms are built and operated in full compliance with HIPAA / HITECH regulations, PHI / ePHI data governance requirements, and Walmart's security and privacy standards
• Build and develop a high-performing, inclusive engineering organisation — hire top talent, define career growth paths, conduct performance reviews, and create an environment where engineers do their best work
• Drive cross-team alignment on shared platforms, APIs, and engineering standards; represent the H&W engineering org in architecture forums, senior leadership reviews, and cross-functional planning
• Manage program-level delivery — track milestones, resolve dependencies, communicate status and risks clearly to senior leadership, and ensure teams consistently deliver with quality and velocity
• Adhere to Company policies, procedures, mission, values, and standards of ethics and integrity

What you'll bring:

• BE/B Tech/ME/M Tech in Computer Science or related technical field
• 10+ years of overall software engineering experience with a strong foundation in Java backend and/or full-stack development (Java + React)
• 3+ years in an engineering management role — managing teams of 8 or more engineers, including managing managers or tech leads
• Engineering Leadership — Proven track record of delivering large-scale, production-grade platforms; ability to engage credibly in architecture and design reviews, set technical direction, and drive engineering OKRs
• People & Org Development — Experienced in hiring, onboarding, performance management, career growth planning, and building a culture of ownership, inclusion, and continuous learning
• Program & Delivery Management — Owns end-to-end delivery across multiple workstreams; manages dependencies, risks, and milestones; communicates with clarity and confidence to VP / Director-level stakeholders
• Healthcare Domain & Compliance — Strong understanding of HIPAA / HITECH regulations, PHI / ePHI data governance, and the operational and regulatory complexities of building software for healthcare and pharmacy environments
• Cloud & Modern Engineering — Working knowledge of cloud-native architectures (GCP / Azure / AWS), Kubernetes, CI/CD, microservices, and observability practices; able to evaluate and guide technology investments at platform scale
• Cross-functional Influence — Strong partner to Product, Design, Clinical, Data, and SRE; translates business and clinical goals into engineering plans and advocates for engineering needs in business planning conversations
• Soft Skills — Decisive and empathetic leader; data-driven decision-making; excellent written and verbal communication; fosters psychological safety, diversity of thought, and a high-performance engineering culture
