Role summary:As a Senior Data Scientist at Walmart, you will leverage advanced analytical techniques and domain expertise to identify, develop, and deploy data-driven solutions that support strategic business objectives. This role focuses on scaling and optimizing GPU infrastructure for model training, conducting performance benchmarking, and deploying generative LLM models for online inference. About the team:
The team develops a foundation model tailored for Walmart’s e-commerce platform, analyzing billions of user interactions to create deep representations of users, items, and queries. This supports scalable search, advertising, and personalization solutions. Members apply expertise in data science, machine learning, and Python programming to optimize model performance and deployment. The group emphasizes rigorous data quality, advanced analytics, and effective visualization to deliver actionable insights. Collaboration across functions ensures alignment with business goals, driving innovation and continuous improvement in data-driven decision-making within a dynamic technology environment.
What you'll do:
- Identify and source relevant data from multiple business domains, ensuring data quality and suitability for analysis.
- Develop, test, and deploy advanced analytical models using programming languages such as Python and SQL.
- Benchmark profiling tools to analyze and optimize GPU utilization and training throughput for machine learning workloads
- Implement distributed inference techniques for large-scale LLM deployments using VLLM
- Perform exploratory data analysis and feature engineering to enhance model accuracy and business insights.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business requirements into data-driven solutions and actionable recommendations.
- Support scalability and sustainability of models in production environments through MLOps best practices.
What you'll bring:
- Extensive experience in data science and advanced analytical modeling techniques, including machine learning and statistical methods.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and SQL for code development, testing, and model deployment.
- Experience with distributed training techniques, data parallelism, model parallelism, and frameworks like Horovod, DeepSpeed, or PyTorch Distributed.
- Familiarity with building and maintaining APIs for model inference, scalable microservices design, and infrastructure tooling.
- Strong knowledge of data visualization tools and best practices to effectively communicate insights to stakeholders.
- Expertise in data source identification, data quality assessment, and data strategy aligned with business objectives.
- Experience mentoring associates and collaborating cross-functionally to deliver data-driven business solutions.

The annual salary range for this position is $117,000.00 - $234,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :

Option 1- Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field and 3 years' experience in an analytics related field. Option 2- Master’s degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field and 1 years' experience in an analytics related field.
