What you'll do...

As a Staff Software Engineer, you will lead the delivery of scoped features and solutions through collaborative engineering efforts, ensuring alignment with platform and business objectives. This role involves designing, developing, testing, and maintaining high-quality software systems while integrating advanced AI/ML components. You will apply technical expertise to drive innovation, mentor peers, and contribute to continuous improvement. Strong problem-solving, technical judgment, and effective communication with cross-functional teams are essential to deliver reliable, scalable, and maintainable software that supports Walmart’s strategic goals and enhances customer experiences.

About the team:

Our team develops and maintains core technologies that support Walmart’s technology ecosystem, including data platforms, enterprise architecture, DevOps, cloud computing, and infrastructure. We deliver scalable, secure solutions enhancing experiences across stores, digital channels, and distribution centers. This supports all software lifecycle stages, enabling teams to innovate and deliver high-quality solutions aligned with Walmart’s technology goals. The team emphasizes collaboration, technical excellence, and continuous improvement to drive impactful results.

What you'll do:

  • Own delivery of scoped features and models through collaborative engineering teams, managing implementation, iteration, testing, and support.

  • Write clean, efficient, and reliable code across multiple languages, driving full software development lifecycle including CI/CD and automated testing.

  • Integrate AI/ML components and leverage generative AI tools to enhance software intelligence and development velocity.

  • Participate in solution design, conduct code reviews, and ensure scalable, secure, and maintainable software aligned with platform objectives.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business needs into technical requirements and define success metrics.

  • Monitor application performance, support defect management, and promote continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.

What you'll bring:

  • Bachelor's / Master's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 10 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.Extensive experience in full-stack software development with proficiency in React, Java, JavaScript, Python, and related frameworks.

  • Strong knowledge of software design patterns, solution architecture, and scalable distributed systems.

  • Hands-on experience with AI coding assistants (Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Gemini CLI, or similar)

  • Expertise in Agile software development methodologies and DevOps practices including CI/CD pipelines and automation scripting.

  • Ability to analyze and translate business requirements into functional and non-functional technical solutions.

  • Skilled in debugging, defect management, and performance troubleshooting to ensure high availability and maintainability.

  • Commitment to coding standards, security policies, and quality assurance best practices.
