As a Software Engineer III, you will build and enhance scalable backend services that power critical pharmacy platforms and customer experiences. You will develop APIs, microservices, and event-driven solutions, collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality features, and help ensure system reliability, performance, and security. You will participate in design discussions, coding, testing, troubleshooting, and production support while contributing to continuous improvement initiatives. This role offers the opportunity to work on large-scale distributed systems, modern cloud technologies, and solutions that have a meaningful impact on millions of customers.
About the team:
We are a high-impact engineering team within Walmart Pharmacy focused on developing the Pharmacy Compliance and Recommendation Platform. This platform delivers personalized, patient-centric care by providing pharmacists with actionable recommendations and compliance insights. Our engineers build scalable cloud-native services, APIs, event-driven architectures, and AI-powered solutions. By integrating advanced technology with healthcare innovation, the team addresses complex challenges at enterprise scale, improving outcomes for millions of customers. What you'll do:
- Design, develop, test, and maintain scalable backend services, APIs, and distributed systems that power Walmart Pharmacy platforms.
- Troubleshoot production issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement sustainable fixes.
- Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code while participating in code reviews and technical discussions.
- Contribute to CI/CD automation, observability, monitoring, and operational excellence initiatives.
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude, Cursor, and other coding assistants to accelerate feature development, automate repetitive tasks, generate tests, and improve code quality.
- Proficiency in applying AI-powered workflows for code generation, refactoring, debugging, documentation, and troubleshooting while maintaining high standards for security, reliability, and maintainability.
What you'll bring:
- Experience developing scalable backend applications using Java, object-oriented programming, APIs, microservices, and cloud-native technologies.
- Strong problem-solving and debugging skills with experience troubleshooting production issues and implementing sustainable solutions.
- Experience with automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, observability, monitoring, and software quality best practices.
- Ability to write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code while collaborating effectively with engineers, product managers, and cross-functional teams.
- Experience leveraging AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude, Cursor etc. to accelerate development, improve code quality, automate testing, and enhance engineering productivity.
- Proficiency in applying AI-powered workflows for code generation, refactoring, debugging, documentation, and troubleshooting while maintaining high standards for security, reliability, and maintainability.

Bentonville, Arkansas US-09158: The annual salary range for this position is $90,000.00 - $180,000.00
Sunnyvale, California US-11349: The annual salary range for this position is $117,000.00 - $234,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :
