What you'll do...

Role summary:
As a Software Engineer III at Walmart, you will build and operate highly available, scalable distributed and SQL platform capabilities for enterprise-grade, mission-critical services. This role supports NoSQL products such as Cosmos and Spanner, and SQL products such as Postgres across public and private clouds. The engineer will contribute to API development, backend engineering, site reliability, DevOps automation, and operational excellence. The ideal candidate has strong Java and Python experience, distributed and SQL systems knowledge, production operations expertise, and a focus on automation, observability, reliability, incident response, and Walmart’s values.
About the team:
The Data Services team drives the development and operation of scalable, highly available distributed SQL and NoSQL platforms supporting enterprise applications. Focusing on backend engineering, API development, site reliability, and DevOps automation, the team ensures platform stability and continuous improvement. By applying automation and AI-assisted engineering practices, the group emphasizes operational excellence and innovation. Collaborating across product, infrastructure, and operations teams, the team fosters a culture of technical excellence, ownership, and alignment with Walmart’s core values of integrity, respect, service, and excellence.
What you'll do:
Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services and platform APIs using Java and Python. Enhance distributed and SQL platform capabilities across Cosmos, Spanner, and Postgres in public and private clouds, including provisioning, tuning, upgrades, reliability, and operational support. Develop reusable automation for lifecycle management, configuration, monitoring, failover, backup/recovery, and capacity planning. Drive DevOps and SRE practices including CI/CD, deployment safety, observability, incident triage, RCA, and remediation. Use AI-assisted automation to reduce toil, accelerate troubleshooting, and improve engineering productivity. Collaborate with architects and partner teams on secure, reliable, cost-efficient platform solutions, documentation, and roadmaps.
What you'll bring:
  • Database Technologies, experience to maintain, manage and support applications and empathy towards problem solving
  • Proven experience in software engineering with strong technical acumen and proficiency in object-oriented programming and API design.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver scalable, maintainable, and high-availability software solutions using iterative and incremental development methodologies.
  • Expertise in debugging, root cause analysis, and troubleshooting complex production issues to ensure system reliability.
  • Skilled in continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) practices, including automation scripting and telemetry implementation.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to translate business requirements into effective technical solutions.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams and mentoring junior engineers.

The annual salary range for this position is $117,000.00 - $234,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :
