What you'll do...

About Team:

Inventory & Merch Tech is the engineering backbone of Walmart's Inventory & Merchandising organization, spanning pricing, cost management, supplier, item, and inventory platforms that support 10,000+ stores and Walmart's global supply chain. Our team delivers a single, unified experience for Walmart’s supplier community across all channels, covering Tier 1 capabilities end to end. Our goal is to dramatically scale assortment while improving supplier efficiency. We operate with high autonomy, a strong engineering culture, and a bias toward clean, principle-based design over quick patches.

What you'll do:

  • Guide the team in architectural decisions and best practices for building scalable, full-stack applications.

  • Own technical roadmaps for the team, driving the transition to modern microservices architectures and next-gen technologies.

  • Lead system design, development, and code reviews across teams, setting technical direction at the platform level.

  • Stay hands-on, writing clean, efficient, and maintainable code across the stack.

  • Drive system modernization and legacy migrations without disrupting the customer experience.

  • Partner with architects and cross-functional teams to deliver solutions that meet QCD (Quality, Cost & Delivery) within established architectural guidelines.

  • Engage with Product Management, Business, and senior leadership to shape priorities and the future product roadmap.

  • Partner with engineering teams across geographies to share expertise and contribute to the broader technical community.

  • Participate in hiring and build high-performing, agile engineering teams.

  • Mentor and grow engineers, raising the quality and technical bar across the team.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve critical, platform-level production issues through root-cause analysis, driving durable fixes.

  • Support on-call activities and ensure cloud costs stay within threshold.

  • Continuously measure and improve system performance, reliability, and scalability.

  • Adhere to company policies, procedures, mission, values, and standards of ethics and integrity.

What you'll bring:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

  • 10-15 years of experience building and leading the development of highly scalable, full-stack applications and platforms.

  • Strong hands-on engineering depth in Java and Spring Boot, with solid proficiency in modern frontend technologies such as React or Angular to deliver end-to-end solutions.

  • Proven experience designing and implementing REST and GraphQL API web services at scale.

  • Strong experience with microservices architecture, distributed systems, and common design principles.

  • Experience with SQL and NoSQL data stores, messaging platforms such as Kafka, and caching technologies such as Redis or Memcached.

  • Experience with container-based development and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).

  • Practical experience with cloud platforms (Azure or GCP) and CI/CD, using tools such as Git, Maven, and Jenkins.

  • Strong testing discipline, including unit, functional, and integration testing (JUnit, Mockito).

  • Experience troubleshooting complex, platform-level production issues in large-scale, highly available, fault-tolerant distributed systems.

  • A track record of growing and leading engineering teams, with strong, influential communication skills.

  • A continuous drive to explore, improve, automate, and optimize systems and tools.

Nice to have:

  • Experience integrating with AI/ML/GenAI services and components.

  • Exposure to pricing, cost, sourcing, or supply-chain domains, or other high-scale, data-intensive retail/e-commerce systems.

  • Experience presenting technical strategy and driving cross-org initiatives with senior leadership.
