Role Summary:
The Staff, Software Engineer plays a critical role in delivering scalable platform capabilities and driving the full software development lifecycle, including design, coding, testing, deployment, and maintenance. This position leads technical execution aligned with strategic roadmaps, applies cloud-native architecture principles, and integrates AI/ML components to enhance automation and product innovation. The role involves mentoring engineers, influencing architectural decisions, and collaborating across teams to solve complex problems using data-driven approaches. Commitment to engineering excellence, continuous improvement, and effective communication is essential to support business objectives and technical sustainability.
About the Team:
The Global Seller Support team delivers scalable platform capabilities and innovative technical solutions to empower sellers worldwide. This team develops AI-powered platforms and intelligent automation that enhance Walmart Marketplace support experiences. Engineers address complex, large-scale challenges using cloud-native technologies, Generative AI, and modern software engineering practices. The team focuses on creating reliable, high-impact products that support one of the world’s largest eCommerce ecosystems, driving continuous improvement and technical excellence to meet evolving business and customer needs.
What You'll Do:
- Define the technical strategy and architecture for large-scale Marketplace Support platforms.
- Lead the design and implementation of AI/LLM-powered agentic workflows and intelligent automation.
- Build resilient, scalable, and observable distributed systems handling millions of seller interactions.
- Drive engineering excellence through architecture reviews, design standards, and technical mentorship.
- Partner with Product, Data Science, and Operations to translate business problems into scalable platform capabilities.
- Influence engineering roadmaps across multiple organizations and lead cross-functional technical initiatives.
- Champion platform reliability, performance, security, and operational excellence.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business needs into actionable technical requirements and measurable success metrics.
- Maintain architectural documentation and ensure quality, reliability, and alignment with long-term business goals.
What You'll Bring:
- 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, with deep expertise in Java, Python, AI solutions, big data platforms, Azure Cosmos DB, and large-scale rack system development.
- Extensive experience in platform engineering leadership, delivering scalable, cloud-native architectures and reusable tooling.
- Proven ability to drive full software development lifecycle, including coding, testing, CI/CD deployment, and incident response.
- Expertise in designing distributed systems optimized for real-time data processing and AI/ML integration.
- Strong technical judgment with a focus on architectural decision-making and long-term system evolution.
- Proficiency in AI agents, model-driven design, and cloud computing architecture.
- Demonstrated leadership in mentoring engineers and fostering engineering excellence.
- Effective collaboration and communication skills with cross-functional teams.
Preferred Experience and Qualifications:
- E-commerce domain experience strong preferred.

The annual salary range for this position is $143,000.00 - $286,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :
