What you'll do...

Role Summary
As a Senior Android Engineer at Walmart, you will build and evolve high-performance native Android applications that power Walmart Marketplace's pre-purchase shopping experiences. You will lead the design and implementation of scalable, maintainable, and performant mobile solutions while partnering closely with Product, Design, Backend, and cross-platform engineering teams.
You will own complex technical initiatives from architecture through production, ensuring exceptional user experience, application reliability, and engineering quality. You will leverage modern Android technologies and AI-assisted development practices to improve engineering productivity, code quality, and customer outcomes. As a senior engineer, you will mentor teammates, drive technical excellence, and influence the long-term evolution of Walmart's mobile platform.

About the Team
Our team builds the Android experiences that power Walmart Marketplace's customer discovery journey, including Search, Browse, Item Pages, Seller Pages, and other pre-purchase experiences within the Walmart app.
We focus on delivering fast, intuitive, and reliable mobile experiences that help customers discover products, evaluate sellers, and shop with confidence. By partnering with platform, backend, and product teams, we build scalable mobile solutions that improve engagement, trust, conversion, and overall Marketplace growth.

What You'll Do

• Design, develop, and maintain high-quality native Android applications using Kotlin and modern Android development best practices.
• Own end-to-end delivery of complex features, from technical design and implementation through testing, rollout, monitoring, and ongoing support.
• Build responsive, performant, and accessible user experiences using Jetpack Compose and modern Android architecture patterns.
• Develop clean, modular, and testable code following MVVM/MVI architectures, dependency injection, and Android best practices.
• Collaborate closely with Product Managers, UX Designers, Backend Engineers, and cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
• Participate in architecture discussions, design reviews, and code reviews to maintain engineering quality and platform consistency.
• Optimize application startup time, rendering performance, memory usage, networking, and battery efficiency.
• Implement robust testing strategies including unit tests, UI tests, integration tests, and automated CI/CD pipelines.
• Integrate APIs, offline data synchronization, push notifications, deep linking, analytics, feature flags, and experimentation frameworks.
• Leverage AI-assisted engineering tools and generative AI technologies to improve developer productivity, software quality, and development velocity.
• Monitor production health using crash reporting, observability, performance metrics, and logging tools to proactively resolve issues.
• Mentor junior engineers, contribute to technical documentation, and promote engineering best practices across the organization.
What You'll Bring

• Strong experience building and shipping large-scale native Android applications using Kotlin.
• Experience with Jetpack Compose, Android SDK, Android Jetpack libraries, and modern Android architecture components.
• Deep understanding of Android application architecture, including MVVM/MVI, dependency injection (Hilt/Dagger), Coroutines, and Flow.
• Experience integrating RESTful APIs, GraphQL services, authentication, offline-first data synchronization, push notifications, and deep linking.
• Strong knowledge of performance optimization, memory management, threading, networking, and application lifecycle management.
• Experience with automated testing frameworks including JUnit, Espresso, Compose UI Testing, and Mockito.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, Git, Gradle, code quality tools, and release management.
• Experience working with analytics, feature flagging, A/B experimentation, crash reporting, and application observability tools.
• Demonstrated ability to lead technical design discussions, influence architectural decisions, and deliver complex cross-team initiatives.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across engineering, product, and design organizations.
• Experience leveraging AI-powered developer tools and integrating AI/ML capabilities into mobile applications is a plus.
• Passion for building customer-centric mobile experiences with a strong focus on performance, quality, accessibility, and engineering excellence.
