Role summary:Walmart is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead the development and delivery of scalable platform capabilities, including infrastructure, tooling, and AI/ML frameworks. This role involves driving the full software lifecycle, applying cloud-native architecture principles, and ensuring high-quality system design. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership, mentor engineering teams, and collaborate across functions to translate complex business needs into effective technical solutions. About the team:
The Collaboration Tools team empowers Product Managers, TPMs, and Engineering leaders by providing insights into organizational goals, product allocation, and initiative tracking. The team manages key products such as Team Rosters, Clipper, and Airtable, integrating them with applications like Wibey, Jira, and Data Lake to deliver comprehensive organizational data. This enables informed decision-making and streamlined workflows. The team focuses on delivering scalable, cloud-native solutions that enhance productivity and support cross-functional collaboration, ensuring alignment with business objectives and technical excellence.
What you'll do:
- Architect and lead the development of complex, large-scale React/TypeScript frontend applications and micro-frontend architectures
- Drive technical decisions on state management, component libraries, API integration strategies, and frontend performance
- Establish observability for frontend systems — instrumentation, performance monitoring, Core Web Vitals, and error tracking
- Champion UI performance — proactively identify and resolve bottlenecks using tools like OmniPerf/Blitzperf, Walmart Continuous Profiler, and browser DevTools
- Partner with security and compliance teams to ensure frontend implementations meet Walmart's privacy, SSP, and Online Tracking Technology (OTT) standards
- Collaborate with stakeholders to translate complex problems into actionable technical requirements.
What you'll bring:
- Deep expertise in React, TypeScript, and modern JavaScript (ES2022+)
- Strong command of Node.js and server-side rendering (SSR) patterns
- Experience designing and building component libraries and design systems at scale
- Demonstrated ability to architect micro-frontend or modular frontend systems
- Proficiency with RESTful and GraphQL API integration patterns
- Strong understanding of web performance — Core Web Vitals, bundle optimization, lazy loading, caching strategies
- Strong proficiency in software design patterns, API design, and software prototyping
- Experience driving full software development lifecycle activities, including coding, testing, CI/CD deployment, and observability.
- Ability to integrate AI/ML components and develop intelligent automation using languages such as JavaScript, Python.
- Demonstrated technical leadership with mentoring skills

The annual salary range for this position is $110,000.00 - $220,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :
