What you'll do...
Role summary:The Staff Software Engineer will lead the development and delivery of scalable platform capabilities, including infrastructure, tooling, and AI/ML frameworks, aligned with strategic roadmaps. This role encompasses full lifecycle ownership of software solutions, from design and coding to deployment and maintenance, applying cloud-native principles to enhance system resilience and agility. The position requires technical leadership, mentorship, and collaboration across teams to drive engineering excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement. The engineer will engage stakeholders to translate complex problems into actionable requirements, ensuring high-quality, sustainable solutions that support business objectives and operational efficiency.
About the team:
The Transportation team advances Walmart’s Supply Chain by developing scalable, resilient applications that enhance delivery efficiency to warehouses, stores, and customers. Leveraging real-time telematics, computer vision, and IoT across Walmart’s and third-party fleets, the team optimizes fleet management and reduces costs. Utilizing a robust technology stack including React Native, Java microservices with Spring Boot, Postgres Timescale DB, Kafka, Cosmos, ElasticSearch, Azure, Splunk, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines, the team ensures high performance and reliability. Continuous innovation drives solutions that meet evolving business needs and support operational excellence.
What you'll do:
- Deliver platform capabilities including infrastructure, tooling, and ML frameworks aligned with roadmap milestones and domain priorities.
- Drive full software development lifecycle activities such as coding, testing, deployment, monitoring, and maintenance.
- Apply cloud-native architecture principles to ensure scalable, resilient, and agile systems.
- Conduct system design reviews to validate feasibility and ensure alignment with architectural best practices.
- Build AI-driven applications integrating ML components and intelligent automation features.
- Mentor engineers, influence technical decisions, and promote engineering excellence.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to define technical requirements and track success metrics.
- Continuously improve processes, tools, and products through innovation and feedback integration.
What you'll bring:
- Proven expertise in cloud-native architecture, including microservices, containers, and automation to ensure scalable and resilient systems.
- Strong proficiency in software design patterns, API design, and software prototyping to develop secure, maintainable, and modular solutions.
- Experience leading full software development lifecycle activities, including coding, testing, CI/CD deployment, and system observability.
- Ability to conduct thorough design reviews and apply technical judgment to align solutions with architectural best practices.
- Skilled in data-driven decision making to define metrics and optimize engineering processes.
- Demonstrated leadership in mentoring engineers and fostering continuous learning and technical excellence.

Sunnyvale, California US-11656: The annual salary range for this position is $143,000.00 - $286,000.00
Bentonville, Arkansas US-09158: The annual salary range for this position is $110,000.00 - $220,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :
