About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Technical Program Manager to drive operational excellence and strategic execution across our AI/ML organization. This role will be the operational backbone of the team, ensuring seamless coordination across multiple managers and workstreams while establishing robust processes for planning, stakeholder engagement, and program delivery.
About the Team
With deep domain expertise, advanced technical capabilities, and a proven track record of successful collaborations, the AI Enablement & Machine Learning team at CNN is accelerating our digital transformation through strategic applications of ML and AI technologies. Our current products include popular, related and personalized content recommendations, contextual ad targeting, and site search-serving millions of CNN users via CNN web and mobile apps. This year we are partnering with teams across the company to democratize AI at CNN. Our "multiplier" approach allows our team to have outsized organizational impact by providing domain expertise, enabling teams, collaborating deeply, and building shared infrastructure
Key Responsibilities:
Team Operations (30%)
Strategic Planning: Lead quarterly planning and roadmapping for ML Platform, Engagement, and Growth teams to align priorities and objectives.
Cross-Team Coordination: Facilitate alignment and execution of initiatives across manager organizations, proactively resolving process bottlenecks.
Operational Excellence: Develop, own, and refine team processes, establishing consistent operational rhythms and best practices.
Accountability Management: Create and maintain accountability matrices to track deliverables and outcomes across all workstreams.
Dependency Management: Identify, monitor, and resolve dependencies between internal teams and external partners to ensure seamless execution.
Stakeholder Relations (30%)
Engagement Framework: Design and implement structured processes and meeting cadences for effective stakeholder engagement.
Relationship Management: Build and sustain strong relationships with key stakeholders, partners, and leadership to foster collaboration.
Communication Strategy: Develop and execute plans to highlight team achievements, capabilities, and business impact to stakeholders.
Stakeholder Coordination: Enable productive interactions between technical teams and business units, bridging gaps in the absence of centralized processes.
Experimentation (30%)
Test Definition & Coordination: Collaborate with the product experimentation team to define and set up A/B tests accurately.
Process Automation: Streamline and automate experimentation processes, implementing clear signoff, accountability, and escalation protocols to eliminate data bottlenecks.
Multi-Team Alignment: Coordinate all teams and individuals involved in experiments to ensure smooth and efficient execution.
Status Reporting: Deliver clear, regular updates on experiment status, identifying blockers and tracking progress against plans.
Results Communication: Facilitate the communication of experiment outcomes and guide decision-making for production deployment.
AI Enablement (10%)
Usage Analytics: Develop and maintain detailed reports on the adoption and impact of AI productivity tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot).
Program Coordination: Oversee administrative tasks for AI enablement initiatives and coordinate outreach efforts to promote adoption.
Proof of Concept Development: Lead the creation of proofs of concept to demonstrate the value of AI tools and drive their adoption across teams.
Qualifications
- 6+ years of technical program management experience in engineering organizations
- Proven track record of driving operational improvements and establishing scalable processes
- Experience managing complex, multi-team initiatives with competing priorities
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
- Experience with experimentation frameworks and data-driven decision making
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in matrix organizations with distributed ownership
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in ML/AI or data-intensive technical environments
- Background in scaling team operations during periods of rapid growth
- Experience with quarterly planning and OKR/goal-setting frameworks
- Track record of building measurement and accountability systems
- Previous experience working with product and engineering leadership
