Discovery introduced Max, an enhanced streaming platform, in the U.S. HBO Max is currently available in 46 countries and there are plans for the continued global expansion of Max in 2024.

About You...

We are hiring a Distinguished Engineer- a senior leadership position to join our Global Video Player team. The ideal candidate has a track record of advising high performing engineering & product teams and impeccable communication skills that will define the future of our end-to-end live architecture, shaping how we build and operate our production studios, including Master Control Rooms (MCR), Production Control Rooms (PCR), and other mission-critical facilities.

Your work and your approach to work are exemplary: you drive best practices and set standards for your team. You are a mentor to engineers & technologists across the org & ensure a high bar on architectural foundations across teams.

You are a key thought leader to tech executives and stakeholders. You are a mentor and a guide to all team members and your actions make the team more productive, by sharing your knowledge, and helping to tie-break key technical decisions.

You are an excellent engineer with deep expertise in live production systems, broadcast architecture, and content distribution. You will work across engineering, operations, and studio teams to deliver resilient, scalable, and innovative solutions that elevate our live content capabilities.

You are an inspiring leader and have a vision to build a strong global engineering culture that consistently delivers on quality output with the right delivery estimates. Your approach to work is exemplary: you are a stickler for processes, have passion for innovation, drive best practices and are looked upon as a reliable leader and mentor by your subordinates. Your team loves to work with you because you inspire, develop, and care for their team members. You build a strong sense of ownership among your team.

The Daily...

  • You are a thought leader to the streaming executive team and video player stakeholders

  • You will partner with InfoSec, Product, Studio Engineering, Content Operations, and Digital Platform teams to develop architecture proposals and prioritize new features.

  • You will own the live experience end-to-end, ensuring that every aspect - from signal acquisition to final delivery, is engineered for excellence, reliability, and innovation.

  • You are excellent at project management, working on tools, conducting analysis and reports to ensure the best output is delivered by the team

  • You are a good judge of people and are able to delegate and get the best out of principal engineers. You are excellent at tracking activities and at ensuring accountability.

  • You will ensure proper documentation is in place for every deliverable.

The Essentials...

  • 12+ years worked in a rapidly changing environment and thrive in a startup environment and are proficient in dealing with ambiguity as a principal engineer

  • 8- 10 years of proven ability to define and evolve end-to-end technical architecture for live content delivery.

  • Skilled in developing scalable content acquisition systems and global live production services.

  • Experience implementing quality assurance, load testing, and SDLC processes for high-performance systems.

  • Deep knowledge of live production systems, broadcast architecture, and content distribution.

  • Experience designing and operating Master Control Rooms (MCR), Production Control Rooms (PCR), and remote production environments.

  • Strong understanding of playout systems for ultra-low latency, high availability, and broadcast-grade quality across linear and digital platforms.
