Position Summary

Several positions are available in the Stitziel Laboratory within the Division of Cardiology and Department of Medicine at WashU Medicine in St. Louis, USA. We seek highly motivated, creative, independent, and enthusiastic scientists to continue our translational studies of the human genetic basis of cardiovascular disease.

Our lab recently discovered that the novel extracellular matrix protein SVEP1 causally promotes cardiometabolic disease in humans and small animals (Jung et al, Science Translational Medicine 2021) likely by interacting with the orphan receptor PEAR1 (Elenbaas et al, Nature Communications 2023).

We seek candidates at different levels, including postdocs, to continue our work in functionally characterizing the impact of this novel interaction on vascular biology and disease pathogenesis. Our research program provides a highly collaborative and supportive training environment to develop and foster independent careers. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to use novel multi-omics approaches to fully characterize molecular mechanisms with direct relevance to human disease.

Individuals with experience in animal models of cardiovascular disease and/or protein biochemistry will be highly competitive.
