Position Summary

The Senior Licensing Associate (SLA) is responsible for managing a portion of the university’s intellectual property portfolio with the mission of transferring it to commercial companies for the benefit of society. The SLA will be responsible for handling license agreements, and a portfolio of IP. These responsibilities will be completed with direction from the Associate Director. The SLA will be expected to support initiatives for the benefit of the OTM.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Completes the Technology Assessment and Commercial/Patent Reassessment on assigned invention disclosure within established OTM time frames. This assessment should include an evaluation of patentability and commercial opportunity. Recommendations will be made on appropriate IP protection (patent or copyright) and patent conversions. Technologies assigned will be of a more complicated nature as compared to those assessed in the Licensing Associate role.
  • Works with legal counsel to protect intellectual property either through patenting or other proper tactics for assigned portfolio. Works directly with OTM patent coordinator and internal legal counsel with the Office of Vice Chancellor and General Counsel (OGC) on patent costs and filing tactics with outside patent law firms.
  • Works with faculty to understand research being conducted and recommend strategies that will result of commercially successful innovation.
  • Negotiates key terms and execute license agreement with licensee. These license agreements will be of a more complicated nature as compared to those assigned to Licensing Associates.
  • Markets top tier technologies including those that are more complicated in nature as compared to those assigned to Licensing Associates.
  • Manages a portfolio of existing licenses with respect to technology development, milestones and non-financial terms of the licensees.
  • Manages special initiatives and outreach to faculty and other inventors as identified by OTM.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Salary Range

$75,200.00 - $128,800.00 / AnnuallyThe salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
