Position Summary

The Departments of Neurosurgery and Radiology with WashU Medicine invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow position to join an exciting, interdisciplinary research team investigating the pathophysiological underpinnings of Chiari malformation. The successful candidate will work with Dr. Jennifer Strahle (Professor of Neurosurgery) and Dr. Arash Nazeri (Assistant Professor of Radiology) as part of a dynamic team leading the P01 NIH “Redefining Chiari” Study, focusing on multimodal neurofluid imaging.

The successful candidate will analyze multimodal imaging data with a focus on phase contrast imaging, 4D flow imaging, and other advanced neurofluid techniques, applying computational neuroimaging, machine learning and fluid dynamics methodologies to interpret these complex datasets. They will work closely with a dynamic team comprised of neurosurgeons, neuroradiologists, neurologists, MRI physicists, mechanical engineers, and imaging scientists, actively engaging in interdisciplinary discussions, data interpretation, and hypothesis generation. In addition, the candidate will prepare manuscripts and presentations to disseminate research findings at national and international conferences, while also contributing to grant writing and the development of future research proposals.

Working Conditions:

This position works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards. The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.

Salary Range:

Base pay is commensurate with experience.

Required Qualifications:


Candidates must possess a PhD in biomedical engineering, imaging sciences, MRI physics, mechanical engineering, or a related field. Applicants holding an MD with a robust background in neuroimaging research and a proven record of research excellence will also be considered.

Preferred Qualifications:


Expertise or demonstrated experience in phase contrast imaging and 4D flow imaging, proficiency in machine learning applications relevant to neuroimaging, familiarity with fluid dynamics and its application to physiological data, and ultrasound imaging is desired.
