The Samovski Laboratory at WashU School of Medicine is seeking a highly motivated Senior Research Technician to join our team. Our research focuses on the role of extracellular vesicles in mediating inter-organ communication in the context of obesity and metabolic disease. We are particularly interested in candidates who are enthusiastic about scientific discovery, eager to learn new techniques, and experienced in both in vivo and in vitro research.Performs independently complex research studies, experiments and assays.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Perform a variety of research tasks, including preparation of reagents, tissue culture, and execution of assays.
- Conduct hands-on work with murine models, including:
- Managing mouse colonies (breeding, weaning, genotyping).
- Performing minor procedures as needed.
- Maintaining accurate records of animal usage and status.
- Collect and record experimental data and maintain detailed, organized records.
- Assist in the setup, calibration, and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
- Maintain lab inventory and assist in ordering reagents and supplies.
- Adhere to institutional safety protocols and maintain documentation related to biosafety and chemical hygiene.
- Ensure cleanliness and operational integrity of the lab space.
- Contribute to the training and onboarding of technicians, acting as a group leader.
- Assists with general lab maintenance and cleaning.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions:
- Works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards.
- Must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.

Preferred Qualifications:
- A minimum of three years of laboratory experience is highly preferred.
- Experience working with mouse models.
- Familiarity with molecular biology techniques (e.g., PCR, Western blotting, RNA isolation).
- Prior experience with extracellular vesicles, lipid metabolism, or models of metabolic diseases is a plus.

$18.77 - $31.94 / HourlyThe salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University.
