About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Senior Systems Operations Engineer


In this role, you will:

  • Lead or participate in managing all installed systems and infrastructure within the Systems Operations functional area
  • Contribute in increasing system efficiencies and lowering the human intervention time on related tasks
  • Review and analyze moderately complex operational support systems, application software, and system management tools to ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability
  • Work with vendors and other technical personnel for problem resolution
  • Lead team to meet technical deliverables while leveraging solid understanding of technical process controls or standards
  • Collaborate with vendors and other technical personnel to resolve technical issues and achieve highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability


Required Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of Systems Engineering, Technology Architecture experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education


Desired Qualifications:

  • Monitoring and Observability Engineer
  • Experience:
    4+ years of hands-on experience in monitoring and observability tools across enterprise-scale environments.
  • Monitoring Tools Expertise:
    Proven experience in implementing, configuring, and maintaining the following tools:
    • AppDynamics
    • ThousandEyes
    • Splunk
    • Grafana
    • Prometheus
    • Elastic Stack (ELK)
  • Scripting and Automation:
    • Strong scripting skills in Python or Shell for automation, data parsing, and custom integrations.
    • Experience developing monitoring scripts, alerting logic, and automation workflows.
  • Database and Querying Skills:
    • Solid understanding of SQL with the ability to write complex queries for data analysis and reporting.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
    • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
    • Ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams.


Job Expectations:

  • As a Monitoring and Observability Engineer, you will be expected to:
  • Collaborate with Vertical Application Support Teams:
    • Partner with application owners and support teams to understand system architecture, performance baselines, and critical business transactions.
    • Act as a bridge between infrastructure monitoring and application-level observability.
  • Enhance Observability Frameworks:
    • Design and implement end-to-end observability solutions tailored to specific application needs.
    • Ensure comprehensive coverage across metrics, logs, traces, and synthetic monitoring.
  • Tool Integration and Optimization:
    • Integrate observability tools (e.g., AppDynamics, ThousandEyes, Splunk, Grafana, Prometheus, Elastic) into application environments.
    • Optimize dashboards, alerts, and reports to provide actionable insights.
  • Automation and Scripting:
    • Develop automation scripts using Python or Shell to streamline monitoring setup, data collection, and alerting mechanisms.
    • Maintain reusable scripts and templates for rapid deployment across environments.
  • SQL and Data Analysis:
    • Use SQL to extract, analyze, and correlate data from monitoring platforms and application databases.
    • Support root cause analysis and performance tuning through data-driven insights.
  • Incident Response and Continuous Improvement:
    • Participate in incident triage and post-mortem analysis to identify observability gaps.
    • Continuously refine monitoring strategies based on feedback and evolving application landscapes.
  • Documentation and Knowledge Sharing:
    • Maintain clear documentation of observability configurations, standards, and best practices.
    • Conduct knowledge-sharing sessions with support teams to promote observability maturity.
