About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Lead Infrastructure Engineer in Middleware Messaging MQ Engineering Team. This Team is responsible for Software and Design Engineering of Middleware Engineered Appliances, Certifications, Provisioning and builds, Engineering readiness, automation of IBM MQ platform.


In this role, you will:

  • Lead complex initiatives to develop infrastructure to provide solutions for business applications
  • Participate in various projects intended to continually improve or upgrade the infrastructure
  • Evaluate internal and external software solutions which could be leveraged to meet target state architecture goals
  • Review and analyze high impact outages to ensure the proper processes and procedures are in place to avoid problems in the future
  • Design, build, deploy and maintain infrastructure solutions through collaborative efforts with the team and third party vendors
  • Design, code, test, debug and document programs using Agile development practices
  • Make decisions in technical designs, implementation plans and identify project risks and resource requirements
  • Direct the daily risk and control flow of operations, focusing on policies, procedures and work standards to ensure success
  • Recommend courses of action to maintain cost effectiveness and achieve results
  • Collaborate and consult with peers, colleagues and managers to resolve issues and achieve goals
  • Interact with customer and vendor

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of Technology Infrastructure Engineering and Solutions experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education

Desired Qualifications:

  • 12+ years building and managing enterprise infrastructure.
  • 10+ years' experience working IBM MQ/MQ Appliance
  • 5+ years of Python experience
  • 3+ years of hands on Ansible experience
  • 3+ years of Grafana experience
  • Knowledge and understanding of Prometheus
  • Knowledge and understanding of Linux
  • Advanced coding or scripting skills specifically around automation
  • Expert knowledge and understanding of technologies related to infrastructure engineering (Infrastructure as code IAC)
  • Ability to help remediate tough technical Engineering and Support issues
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of team on multiple overlapping projects
  • Ability to operate effectively in a geographically dispersed organization
  • Customer focused, service-oriented attitude
  • Proven skills analyzing and trouble-shooting complex systems configurations
  • Agile experience
  • Risk management and mitigation experience


Job Expectations:

  • Engineer, build, configure, and operationalize IBM MQ Appliances including standards, patterns, and repeatable setup.
  • Own appliance lifecycle activities: firmware planning, patch/upgrade execution strategy, and platform stability improvements (HA pairs, DR replication, etc.).
  • Define MQ appliance deployment patterns (e.g., neighborhood/segmentation, dense packing strategy, HA/DR topology) aligned with platform strategy.
  • Reliability, Performance & HA/DR
  • Ensure high availability and performance for MQ appliances and MQ on RHEL—capacity planning, tuning, failover testing, client reconnect testing, and DR validation.
  • Drive standardized performance and resiliency testing approaches and help teams adopt them
  • Appliance Engineering skills (Install MQ, Configure MQ as per best practice, MQ HA/DR, MQ clustering, MQ authentication and authorization
  • Expertise in Prometheus and Grafana would be desirable
  • Good understanding of IBM MQ or other messaging products like Kafka
  • Solid and proven Software Engineering applications on IBM MQ
  • Provide Engineering assistance in Problem determination and resolution
