About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Lead Data Engineer.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead complex initiatives with broad impact and act as key participant in large scale software planning for the Technology area
  • Design, develop, and run tooling to discover problems in data and applications and report the issues to engineering and product leadership
  • Review and analyze complex software enhancement initiatives for business, operational or technical improvements that require in depth evaluation of multiple factors including intangibles or unprecedented factors
  • Make decisions in complex and multi-faceted data engineering situations requiring understanding of software package options and programming language and compliance requirements that influence and lead Technology to meet deliverables and drive organizational change
  • Strategically collaborate and consult with internal partners to resolve highly risky data engineering challenges


Required Qualifications,

  • 5+ years of Database Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education


Desired Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in data product lifecycle (MS SQL, Oracle, Teradata)
  • 3+ years of experience in ETL development
  • 2+ years of experience in Python (Pandas, oracledb, sqlalchemy, etc)
  • 1+ years of experience in GitHub, Jenkins, UrbanCode Deploy
  • 1+ years of experience in Autosys
  • 1+ years of experience using APIGEE and/or Kafka
  • Relational database and data repository experience
  • Experience designing reusable ETL solutions using Python and/or SSIS
  • Knowledge and understanding of Data Models, ERD, Dimensional Models and Metadata
  • Experience working with complex datasets using SQL
  • Advanced data modeling skills and experience in capacity planning
  • Proficiency in data quality analysis
  • Experience using data analysis to identify trends
  • Ability to develop business metadata and data dictionaries
  • Experience analyzing data defects, identifying the root cause and defining the remediation options.
  • Knowledge of data security and governance principles utilized at WF
  • Release process knowledge and experience using ServiceNow and/or DevSecOps
  • Working knowledge of EPL including GitHub, Liquibase
  • Proficiency in written skills to author requirements documents, specifications and training documents.
  • Developing and following best practice for data management.


Job Expectations:

  • Design, build and optimize ETLs
  • Develop complex SQL logic for curated data views
  • Identify and recommend analysis of data quality or integrity issues
  • Design, document and execute test plans supporting development
  • Evaluate data quality metrics and data quality audits to benchmark the state of data quality
  • Make decisions in complex and multi-faceted situations requiring solid understanding of data governance standards and procedures
  • Identify new data sources and develop recommendations for assessing the quality of new data
  • Lead project teams and mentor less experienced staff members
  • Strategically collaborate and consult with peers, colleagues, and mid-level to senior managers to coordinate and drive collaboration on solution design and remediation execution
