About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to build core automation and platform capabilities that advance network reliability engineering. This role focuses on designing and developing scalable systems and tools that streamline network engineering workflows while enabling data‑driven automation and enhanced observability across critical network and application environments.


In this role, you will:

  • Lead complex technology initiatives including those that are companywide with broad impact

  • Act as a key participant in developing standards and companywide best practices for engineering complex and large scale technology solutions for technology engineering disciplines

  • Design, code, test, debug, and document for projects and programs

  • Review and analyze complex, large-scale technology solutions for tactical and strategic business objectives, enterprise technological environment, and technical challenges that require in-depth evaluation of multiple factors, including intangibles or unprecedented technical factors

  • Make decisions in developing standard and companywide best practices for engineering and technology solutions requiring understanding of industry best practices and new technologies, influencing and leading technology team to meet deliverables and drive new initiatives

  • Collaborate and consult with key technical experts, senior technology team, and external industry groups to resolve complex technical issues and achieve goals

  • Lead projects, teams, or serve as a peer mentor

  • Lead the design and development of scalable automation platforms that enhance network engineering workflows and operational efficiency.

  • Build reliable data‑driven services and tooling that support automation, observability, and analytics across network and application environments.

  • Collaborate with cross‑functional engineering teams to define technical standards, integrate systems, and advance automation capabilities.

  • Drive technical excellence through architecture guidance, code quality, and best‑practice engineering to ensure resilient and maintainable solutions.


Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of Software Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education


Desired Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience building scalable, production‑grade systems using modern programming languages and frameworks.

  • Strong proficiency in Python, .NET, JavaScript/React, APIs, and hands‑on experience with SQL and NoSQL data stores.

  • Strong proficiency in Ansible based network and systems automation, with 8+ years of working domain experience.

  • Knowledge on orchestration platforms like AAP, Tower is added advantage

  • Experience with event‑driven and distributed systems, including Kafka, ETL pipelines, microservices design.

  • 3+ years of practical experience building AI/ML‑powered capabilities, including data preparation, model development, optimization, and deployment into production workflows.

  • Experience designing and deploying RESTful services, backend automation services, and platform components that support large‑scale engineering or operational systems.

  • Familiarity with containerized workloads on Kubernetes, Open Shift

  • Strong background in data engineering workflows, including data ingestion, data feeds, transformation, and analysis ideally in infrastructure or operational domains.

  • Exposure to observability and telemetry ecosystems, such as Prometheus, Open Telemetry, time‑series metrics, synthetic monitoring, or capacity/health analytics.

  • Solid understanding of systems fundamentals: concurrency, memory management, distributed system behavior, API architectures, and modern web/service frameworks.

  • Effective communicator with the ability to influence cross‑functional teams, collaborate across the functions

  • Experience working with capacity analytics, metrics pipelines, telemetry, or observability systems supporting large, distributed environments is added advantage.

  • Knowledge of Agile development models and experience working in product‑based engineering teams.

  • Understanding of secure software development practices, including secure coding, static analysis, and application security fundamentals.

  • Familiarity with enterprise architecture patterns across front‑end, services, middleware, and data layers in complex systems environments.

Job Expectations:

  • Regular commit code and develop solutions and promote code hygiene and best practices.

  • Lead complex initiatives that span multiple systems, services, and data flows, ensuring architectural consistency.

  • Drive AI driven development and solutioning across the group.

  • Define and enforce engineering standards covering design, reliability, observability, security, and performance.

  • Make high‑impact technical decisions, evaluate tradeoffs, and provide direction for ambiguous or challenging problems.

  • Collaborate across teams to align technical approaches and ensure smooth delivery of cross‑team projects.

  • Mentor engineers at all levels, guide design reviews, and elevate the team’s overall technical depth.

  • Drive continuous improvement in engineering practices, tooling, automation, and operational readiness.

  • Identify and mitigate technical risks early; ensure long‑term maintainability and scalability.

  • Create roadmaps for solutions and product being worked upon, ensure alignment across team
