About this role:
Wells Fargo is seeking an engineer who will be responsible for the reliability, scalability, and operational excellence of enterprise tracing and application performance monitoring platforms, including Splunk Observability Cloud, AppDynamics, and DT‑Managed.
This role applies SRE principles, automation, and software engineering practices to ensure tracing platforms are incident‑ready, highly available, and easily consumable across the enterprise.
In this role, you will:
- Own the availability, performance, and stability of enterprise tracing and APM platforms.
- Operate and support distributed tracing infrastructure, agents, and collectors across hybrid and cloud environments.
- Partner with application teams to enable end‑to‑end tracing visibility and service dependency mapping.
- Drive platform upgrades, agent lifecycle management, and capacity planning.
- Build automation and tooling to reduce operational toil and improve reliability.
- Apply Infrastructure‑as‑Code and configuration‑as‑code practices where applicable.
- Design and implement API‑based integrations with observability platforms and downstream systems.
- Enable programmatic access to tracing data for analytics, dashboards, and operational workflows.
- Ensure secure and scalable integration patterns aligned with enterprise standards.
Required Qualifications:
- 4+ years of Technology Infrastructure Engineering and Solutions experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
- Strong experience in Site Reliability Engineering, Platform Engineering, or Systems Engineering.
- Hands‑on experience supporting APM / tracing platforms, including:
- Splunk Observability Cloud
- AppDynamics
- DT‑Managed
- Proficiency in automation and software development (Python, Java, Go, or similar).
- Experience building and consuming REST APIs and integrations.
- Strong understanding of distributed systems, cloud platforms, and containerized environments.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience with OpenTelemetry‑based instrumentation and collectors.
- Background in large‑scale enterprise observability environments.
- Experience enabling self‑service observability platforms.
- Familiarity with infrastructure automation, CI/CD, and configuration management.
Job Expectations:
- Ensure enterprise tracing platforms (Splunk Observability Cloud, AppDynamics, DT‑Managed) operate with high availability, predictable performance, and operational resilience.
- Proactively identify and remediate reliability risks before they impact production workloads.
- Maintain consistent instrumentation health, agent availability, and data completeness across supported environments.
- Build and maintain API‑based integrations that connect tracing platforms with alerting, incident, and remediation systems.
