Job Description
The IAR Senior Data Analyst is responsible for extracting, processing, analyzing, and reporting on data to produce rigorous, actionable insights and research. They establish and maintain strong relationships with peers and leaders across IAR, Data Engineering, Product Management, Finance, EdTech, and Faculty staff. They perform ad hoc analyses, build standard reports and data visualizations, and deliver information and insights through various methods and media that privilege data storytelling and compress time-to-action.

As a Senior Data Analyst on the Outreach Analytics team, your work will directly influence how prospective students discover, engage with, and enroll at WGU—turning data into insights that shape strategy and outcomes at scale.
The Institutional Analytics and Research (IAR) department supports teams across the university by delivering rigorous analysis, research, and insights that enable data‑informed decision‑making. Our analysts, scientists, researchers, and managers partner closely with academic, operational, and technology teams to improve student outcomes and advance WGU’s mission.
The Outreach Analytics team operates at the intersection of marketing, enrollment, and regional operations. We transform customer journey data into actionable insights that inform campaign strategy, improve performance, and help more students find the right path to education. The Role: Senior Data Analyst
As a Senior Data Analyst – Outreach Analytics, you will lead complex analyses, answer high‑impact business questions, and deliver insights that guide outreach and enrollment strategy. You’ll work with large, multi‑source datasets; build reports and visualizations; and collaborate closely with partners across IAR, Data Engineering, Marketing, and Enrollment. This role requires strong analytical judgment, advanced SQL expertise, and the ability to translate data into compelling stories that accelerate decision‑making.
What You'll Do
- Lead complex analyses to answer strategic business questions across outreach, marketing, and enrollment domains
- Write advanced SQL to extract, transform, and analyze data from large, multi‑domain data sets
- Build and maintain dashboards and reports using Tableau or Power BI to surface trends and insights
- Partner with Data Engineering to develop and improve ETL/ELT pipelines, data quality standards, and analytics best practices
- Communicate insights clearly through data storytelling, presentations, and written deliverables to technical and non‑technical audiences
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline
- 5+ years of experience in Data Analytics
- Advanced SQL proficiency (joins, CTEs, window functions, performance tuning, data transformation)
- Advanced proficiency building reports and dashboards using Tableau or Power BI
- Strong experience with descriptive statistics, causal analysis, and inference
Bonus if You Have
- Experience in marketing, outreach, enrollment, or customer journey analytics
- Familiarity with data modeling concepts (dimensional models, star/snowflake schemas)
- Experience mentoring or supporting the development of other analysts
Experience in lieu of education
An equivalent combination of training, experience, credentials, or accomplishments demonstrating the ability to perform the essential functions of this job may substitute for education degree requirements.

This is a full‑time, in‑office position at WGU’s headquarters in Salt Lake City, UT. You’ll work alongside a multidisciplinary team of analysts, researchers, and educators committed to data‑informed innovation and student success
