Senior Manager, Software Engineering

Introduction

We are seeking a seasoned Senior Manager of Software Engineering in the WEX Mobility Engineering organization. This role will lead the engineering team responsible for Mobility Services with APIs first approach, delivering fleet management and mobility payments solutions to our large customers and partners.

The Mobility engineering team spans across the United States, Brazil and India and builds SaaS and API-based solutions for customers across North America. WEX Mobility products enable credit issuance to fleet companies, their employees, and owner-operators through WEX Credit Cards, which can be used at fueling stations and select merchants.

At WEX, we empower fleet managers and operators to configure spend controls that restrict card usage to preconfigured merchants and approved product families ensuring security, compliance, and operational efficiency across mobility ecosystems.

How You’ll Make an Impact

• Develop, drive, and execute a long-term vision and strategy for WEX Mobility services supporting vehicle management and mobility payments, including card issuance, controls, lifecycle, and transaction processing

• Act as a hands-on technical leader by owning and influencing API platform designs, making high-judgment decisions such as selecting RESTful APIs versus gRPC based on use cases

• Develop and track progress against the Mobility APIs architectural roadmap, aligning engineering execution with business objectives and industry best practices

• Maintain a granular resource map of developers and their month-over-month workstreams

• Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, empowerment, and continuous learning

• Continuously challenge the status quo and implement mechanisms to reduce time-to-market using modern engineering approaches

• Collaborate with other Mobility engineering teams to reuse development practices and shared components, reducing duplication

• Drive cross-team engineering initiatives as a single-threaded owner (STO)

• Hire, lead, manage, retain, and grow high-performing software engineers through active career development and growth planning

• Partner closely with product and commercial stakeholders to prioritize initiatives and work backward from customer requirements to deliver a modern, scalable API suite

• Drive effective weekly and monthly mechanisms to plan, execute, and audit engineering workstreams

• Establish and maintain a clear, metrics-driven engineering roadmap that motivates teams and aligns with business goals

• Define and track metrics-driven development productivity across the Mobility APIs team

• Confidently present to, influence, and communicate with senior leadership, providing regular updates to your Director on challenges and opportunities within the Mobility domain

Experience You’ll Bring

• Master’s degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering

• 8+ years of experience in software engineering, including 4+ years in engineering management roles

• Expertise in designing and building large-scale distributed systems, with proven experience in testing and validating solutions for accuracy, resilience, and performance

• Ability to automate generation of scaffolding code, unit tests, and integration tests using execution data and generative AI techniques

• Strong understanding of security, privacy, and compliance requirements in cloud and data environments

• Excellent leadership, team-building, and high-quality decision-making skills

• Ability to navigate ambiguity and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience building high-performance distributed systems at internet scale

• Experience building credit card products or developing solutions within card schemes or payment networks

• Experience working on closed-loop card systems
