The role / impact
This role is about taking ownership of the engineering heart of Xero.com, where your work directly influences how millions of users interact with our brand. As a senior engineer, you will lead the architecture and implementation of front-end solutions that drive conversion and enhance the digital experience for our global audience.
You will be responsible for the technical health and reliability of our website, ensuring it remains performant and accessible at all times. By collaborating with various teams, you will solve complex engineering problems at scale and contribute to the evolution of our shared component library and experimentation frameworks.
The team / how they connect
You will join the newly formed Acquisition (ACQ) team, a collaborative group of engineers based in Australia and San Francisco who manage the upkeep and innovation of Xero.com. The team works closely with SEO and Marketing stakeholders through agile ceremonies and regular team days to ensure our digital presence is intuitive and impactful.
The team is currently working on
Modernising the website navigation to be more responsive and intuitive while improving crawlability for modern AI algorithms.
Evolving our core web and experimentation stack, including Adobe Experience Manager (AEM), Adobe Target, and our shared React component library.
Improving technical website health and Core Web Vitals to ensure 24/7 reliability and performance.
Exploring the integration of AI chatbots and AI-driven design tooling into our existing workflows using tools like Cursor, CoPilot, and Claude.
Where and how you can work
This role is based in Melbourne. We embrace a hybrid working model with no mandated office days, but will balance focused remote work with "boost days" in the office to foster connection and collaboration within the team.
Here are some of the things we are looking for
You bring deep expertise in building accessible, high-performance web applications using React, TypeScript and NextJS
A strong understanding of modern backend and infrastructure tools such as NodeJS and AWS services, including S3, Lambda, and API Gateway, is something you offer.
You have experience maintaining CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitHub Actions, TeamCity, or Jenkins to automate and ship quality code.
Effective communication skills are part of your toolkit, allowing you to manage stakeholders and explain technical concepts to non-technical peers.
You possess a growth mindset and a passion for technical excellence, often acting as a mentor to help coach and develop those around you.
Comfort with website reliability is essential, including a willingness to participate in a balanced on-call rotation to support our production environment.
Apply even if your experience isn't a perfect match! At Xero, we hire based on your skills, passion, and the unique perspective you can bring to enhance our culture and team.
