As a Backend Engineer, you are a core technical member of the team. You are a "Career Professional" who can work independently with minimal guidance on feature development and system enhancements. You have a solid grasp of software engineering principles, a commitment for high-quality code, and an interest in using AI and DevOps practices to deliver value faster and more reliably.
Your Focus & Impact
Feature Ownership: Design, develop, and maintain backend services and APIs for commerce products. You take responsibility for the full development lifecycle of a feature or workstream.
AI-Enhanced Productivity: Proficiently utilize AI-assisted coding tools to accelerate your own coding, testing, and debugging processes while maintaining high code quality.
AI-first: Experience using AI to overcome development bottlenecks
Operational Excellence (DevOps): Participate in the "You Build It, You Run It" culture. You will help manage CI/CD pipelines, monitor service health, and participate in on-call rotations to ensure system reliability.
Technical Collaboration: Act as a resource for less experienced colleagues. Participate actively in code reviews and design discussions to ensure the team’s technical standards are met.
Problem Solving: Develop solutions to moderately complex problems and take a new perspective on existing solutions to improve performance or maintainability.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience: BS/M.S. in Computer Science (or equivalent) and 5+ years of professional experience in backend software development.
Technical Proficiency: Strong programming skills in at least one general-purpose programming language (Java, Python, Scala).
System Implementation: Proven experience in developing and deploying production-grade microservices or distributed systems.
Modern Tooling: Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools and a willingness to integrate them into your daily workflow.
DevOps Practice: Experience with containerization, version control, understanding of CI/CD, and cloud environments (AWS/GCP).
CS Fundamentals: Solid understanding of algorithms, data structures, and database management (SQL or NoSQL).
Preferred Qualifications
Java Focus: Experience with Spring Boot or similar Java frameworks.
Cloud Environments: Familiar with AWS services.
Infrastructure as Code: Experience with Terraform, Kubernetes.
Observability: Experience using monitoring tools like Grafana, or Splunk.
Agile Mindset: Experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment and contributing to team-level process improvements.
