New York University Prison Education Program - College-in-Prison Project Director Provides training and coordination support for the college-in-prison program
Assist faculty and administrative director of NYU’s Prison Education Program to train staff and provide support with daily operations of degree programming at Wallkill Correctional Facility. Scope of training and support work includes:
- Coordination with Wallkill CF leadership to schedule and submit trimester and weekly callouts, gate passes, weekly volunteer reports, and meetings, communicate supply shipments and deliveries, infrastructure issues, and policy updates
- Coordination of DOCCS clearance for academic materials (content and equipment), student publications, and volunteers (packet submission, orientations, fingerprinting, ID, GPs)
- Process for weekly Academic Advising strategy and schedule, utilizing tracker documents for recordkeeping
- Process for trimester student course selection and registration, management of degree audit, and coordination with admission office when new cohorts are onboarded (NetID, N#, matriculation support)
- Coordination of AA and BA New Student Orientations, Program Manual development, Admissions Processes, Co-curricular workshops
- Management of weekly exchange of materials between students and faculty, development of individualized course completion plans with students/faculty
- Process for Wallkill student communications: send all student letters with policy updates, schedules, and important notifications, as well as communications with individual students
- Process for applying for students’ graduation and process degree progress submission and conferral of diplomas
- Process for Parole/Clemency letter writing - processing student requests for faculty letters of support, tracking submissions, and coordinating with DOCCS for inclusion in student records
- Process for communicating with ORCs requesting student transcripts and LCTA information
Formal and informal evaluations will be used, including regular check-ins and one-on-one meetings with supervisors, provision of regular feedback on progress and goal areas, strategizing areas for improvement, and troubleshooting emerging challenges.
The job duties for this position are highly local and require onsite presence to be performed.
In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the salary range for this position is $30- $40/hr. When extending an offer, New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant.
Qualifications
Excellent organizational skills; experience executing detail-oriented and time-sensitive tasks; strong written and interpersonal communication skills; experience as a facility coordinator with a college in-prison program in New York State a strong plus.
