Description
NYU Stern Professors Sinja Leonelli, Irina Luneva, Gurpal Sran, and Aleksander Aleszczyk seek a highly skilled and motivated individual to work as a full-time junior research scientist. This predoctoral position provides an opportunity to gain experience in academic accounting and finance research and would be ideal preparation for a Ph.D. program in accounting, finance, or other related fields. Research scientists work with faculty to collect and process data, conduct statistical analyses, and provide other support associated with faculty research. The initial contract is for one year, but ideally can be extended to two years. The start date is subject to negotiation but may be as early as July 1, 2025. Applications will be evaluated on a rolling basis. We pay a competitive salary and provide standard benefits such as health insurance.
In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $50,440-$60,000. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.

The ideal applicant will have:
- Completed a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a quantitative discipline by summer 2025.
- Strong experience with statistical software such as Stata, R, and SAS.
- Preferred additional experience in text parsing and analysis, numerical optimization, and/or machine learning techniques (Python, SQL, and/or C).
- Ability to work independently, think critically, and solve problems.
- Enthusiasm for research.
- A background in economics, finance, or accounting is a plus, but not necessary—candidates with strong technical backgrounds who are looking for more exposure to academic business research or have an interest in applying for PhD programs are welcome to apply.
