The Theater and Health Lab and the Verbatim Performance Lab, housed in the NYU Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development, seek a part-time researcher to contribute to the implementation and dissemination of a multi-institutional, interdisciplinary study examining how participatory theater can address discrimination in health care settings.
Position Summary
The part-time researcher will work closely with a collaborative team of researchers led by Dr. Nisha Sajnani and Professor Joe Salvatore of the NYU Steinhardt Department of Music and Performing Arts Professions. The position will involve coordinating project activities, analyzing data, and contributing to manuscript development for peer-reviewed publications. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in qualitative and quantitative research methods, excellent writing skills, and a commitment to issues of health equity, justice and inclusion.
This is a part-time position of approximately 15 hours per week. The position will begin in mid-July and conclude by August 31, 2025. Much of the work will be remote, but some in-person meetings will be required at the NYU Washington Square Campus. This position does not include any supervisory responsibilities.
Roles and Responsibilities for this position include:
- Analyze qualitative and quantitative data using appropriate methodologies to address research objectives
- Draft, revise, and co-author academic manuscripts, reports, and presentations
- Collaborate with team members across institutions to ensure project milestones are met
- Attend and contribute to regular team meetings, providing progress updates and keeping meeting minutes
- Coordinate research documentation, including data management, ethics compliance, and version control of collaborative writing
- Maintain organized records of data analysis procedures and literature references
Qualifications
Required Experience:
- Demonstrated experience with both qualitative (e.g., content analysis) and quantitative research methods, including data analysis across multiple time points
- Proven track record of academic writing and/or publications
- Proficiency in statistical and qualitative data analysis tools (e.g., SPSS, NVivo, or similar)
- Familiarity with collaborative research environments, particularly interdisciplinary and community-based projects
- Experience in coordinating research projects and administration
- Strong command of Google Suite and Microsoft Office tools
- Commitment to issues of health equity and social justice
Required Education:
- Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Drama Therapy, Educational Theater, Public Health, Psychology, or a related discipline)
In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the base salary range for this position is $26 - $30 per hour. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.
