Description

We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated individual to work as a full-time Junior Research Scientist for a period of at least one year. The start date is subject to negotiation, but may be as early as August 1, 2026.

This position is ideal for recent college graduates with an interest in economics research who are planning to attend graduate school in economics or finance. You will work with and be supervised by NYU Stern Professors Cecilia Parlatore and Olivier Wang on projects of theirs and their coauthors. Ongoing projects include topics in financial intermediation, macroeconomics, and asset pricing.

The position will be based in New York City, and the successful candidate will be able to participate in the academic life at NYU, including the ability to attend research seminars. In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $51,700-$61,500. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.

Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates with strong quantitative backgrounds or prior experience with statistical software such as Stata and numerical computing software such as MATLAB.

Ideal candidates will:

  • have a strong quantitative or analytic background;
  • have strong computer skills including programming;
  • be self-driven and able to work independently to solve problems;
  • have a long-term interest in pursuing research in economics or finance.

Background in economics is a plus, but not necessary—we welcome all candidates with strong technical backgrounds.
