New York University Tandon School of Engineering
The Climate, Energy, and Risk Analytics (CERA) Lab at NYU Tandon School of Engineering is seeking to hire a Part Time Scholar to work on research at the intersection of generative artificial intelligence, climate hazard exposure modeling, and infrastructure risk analysis.

The CERA Lab conducts interdisciplinary research that integrates engineering, data science, climate science, and decision analysis to quantify and mitigate climate and infrastructure risks, with applications to flooding, extreme weather, and urban systems.
Responsibilities
Candidates will be responsible for:

supporting ongoing research projects in generative AI–based hazard and exposure modeling, including development and testing of data pipelines for climate and flood risk analysis.

contributing to pipeline development for GeoFlood Studio and RoofNet
-
assisting with model development and validation
-
supporting data analysis and visualization of the project

contributing to academic paper writing and proposal development.
The successful candidate will have a demonstrated background in quantitative modeling, data science, mechanical and urban engineering, or AI/ML methods as exemplified by a strong publication record. Previous experience in Python-based scientific computing, geospatial data, machine learning, or climate or hazard modeling is desired.
Salary
In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary for this position is hourly rate of $30, depending on the candidate’s experience and qualification.
Expected start date and period of employment
Expected start date is: March 2026. This position is expected to be for 5 months. Part time appointments would require a work schedule of approximately 27 hours per week
Qualifications
Candidates should have at least a BS in engineering, computer science, data science, applied mathematics, or a related field. Candidates will be required to present eligibility to work in the United States.
