Description
The Assistant Research Scientist will operate as a researcher as part of a team surveying plant and pollinator biodiversity in New York City. Duties include fieldwork in the spring and summer 2026 surveying biodiversity, recording and organizing data, troubleshooting new hardware for non-invasive pollinator monitoring, and data analysis as capable.
Responsibilities
- Collection and curation of ecological data to support biodiversity research projects
- Establish and maintain fieldwork standards, protocols, and data management practices
- Work as part of a team to assist other research projects in the lab and coordinate sampling across projects
- Support equipment development and troubleshooting
Position expectations
The start date is on or around March, 1, 2026. This is a 7-month, part-time, in-person position. The successful candidate should anticipate regular meetings with Adam Roddy and Julia Monk and other team members. This position is based in New York and the selected candidate will be expected to work onsite as of their effective start date
In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the hourly rate for this position is $18. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.
Qualifications
Required qualifications
- A Bachelors degree in Environmental Studies, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, Biology, or a related field
- At least 1 season of independent fieldwork experience
- Experience identifying plants and insects
- Strong time and project management skills
- Ability to work on a team

- Working proficiency in coding in R
- Strong writing skills
- Experience with image processing
