Description

FULL TIME RESEARCH SCHOLAR

New York University Tandon School of Engineering

The Maimon lab (https://www.maimonlab.com) at NYU Tandon School of Engineering is seeking to hire a Full time Research Scholar to work in neural stem cell biology, brain regeneration, neurodegeneration (specifically Huntington’s Disease) and neuro-engineering.

New York University (NYU) is one of the top private universities in the United States, and the Tandon School of Engineering, located in Brooklyn, NY, is deeply committed to excellence in teaching and learning. Tandon fosters student and faculty innovation and entrepreneurship that make a difference in the world. The mission of the Maimon lab (located in Manhattan) is to pioneer regenerative strategies for neurodegenerative diseases by unlocking the potential of in vivo cellular identity conversion. Through experimentation and interdisciplinary thinking, the Maimon lab explores how dormant neural stem cells can be reawakened and guided to form new glial and neurons, with the ultimate goal of inducing brain regeneration in aging and disease.

Expectations

We are seeking a highly motivated researcher to join our lab’s mission to advance regenerative neurobiology and therapeutic genome editing for neurodegenerative diseases. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to both high-impact research and the early development of a new lab at NYU.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and perform in vivo and ex vivo studies in mouse models of Huntington’s Disease (HD), focused on gene editing using CRISPR/Cas9, AAV, and ASO-based approaches.

  • Conduct behavioral and molecular phenotyping, and optimize delivery and safety of therapeutic tools.

  • Lead or support single-cell and spatial transcriptomics experiments, including MERFISH, immunofluorescence, spatial proteomics, and live-cell imaging.

  • Analyze and integrate single-cell datasets using established computational pipelines.

  • Assist in lab setup and daily operations, including ordering supplies, preparing reagents and buffers, and maintaining lab documentation.

  • Help establish protocols, track inventory, and maintain a well-organized and efficient research environment.

Expected start date is: March 2026. This position is expected to be for 12 months.

Salary range

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary for this position is $48,000-$50,000 for full time depending on the candidate’s experience and qualification.

Qualifications

Candidates should have at least a BS in Neuro Cell Biology or a related field and 1 year of experience. Candidates will be required to present eligibility to work in the United States.

Application Instructions

Applicants should submit the following information:

  • Cover letter

  • up-to-date CV that includes a complete list of publications,

  • names and contact information for three references.
