We also help merchants connect with their customers, process exchanges and returns, and manage risk. We enable consumers to engage in cross-border shopping and merchants to extend their global reach while reducing the complexity and friction involved in enabling cross-border trade.

Job Summary:
At PayPal, Staff Android Software Engineers are visionary technical leaders who shape the future of our mobile platform. You’ll define and execute the Android technology roadmap, architect scalable systems that power millions of secure transactions, and deliver world-class mobile experiences. In this role, you’ll drive innovation, lead high-performing teams, mentor senior engineers, and partner with product and engineering leadership to advance PayPal’s mission through cutting-edge mobile solutions.Job Description:
Essential Responsibilities:
Acts as a project or system leader, coordinating the activities of other engineers on the project or within the system
Determines the technical tasks that other engineers will follow
Actions result in the achievement of customer, operational, program or service objectives
Proactively improves existing structures & processes
Exercises judgement in reconciling diverse and competing priorities (time, quality, complexity risk) to identify optimal solutions to problems
Notices patterns and condenses repetition into densely meaningful generalized solutions
Collaborates with management to set/improve standards for engineering rigor
Trusted to represent PayPal, Inc to the outside world via interactions with partners, customers, or industry organizations
Expected Qualifications:
Minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience and a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
Additional Responsibilities & Preferred Qualifications:
Additional Qualifications
Extensive expertise in Android development, with deep proficiency in Kotlin and Java and experience delivering scalable, high-quality mobile applications.
Proven ability to design and architect complex, reliable, and maintainable mobile systems, including reusable libraries and shared platforms.
Strong foundation in mobile architecture, object-oriented design, and modern Android frameworks (Jetpack, Compose), with emphasis on clean code and testing best practices.
Experience integrating with SQL/NoSQL databases and using ORM frameworks such as Hibernate or JPA.
Demonstrated success leading cross-functional technical initiatives, influencing engineering direction, and promoting best practices across teams.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to translate complex technical challenges into practical, scalable solutions.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with mobile payment technologies and integrations.
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins), application monitoring tools (Crashlytics, Fabric), and automated testing frameworks (Appium, Cucumber).
Knowledge of React Native, performance optimization, and emerging technologies such as AI/ML, AR, VR, and wearables.
Recognized for mentoring senior engineers and fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
