Job Summary:
Join PayPal's AI Platform team, where we build and maintain the foundational infrastructure that powers machine learning across all PayPal domains. Our team operates the Simulation platform for MDLC, enabling data scientists and engineers company-wide to develop, test, and deploy ML models that impact millions of transactions daily. You'll work at the intersection of cutting-edge AI technology and real-world financial applications, collaborating with cross-functional teams to solve complex problems at scale.As a Senior Software Engineer, you'll deliver complete solutions across the full SDLC for our Simulation platform. Working with modern technologies including Java/Spring, GCP, Kubernetes, and Big Data frameworks, you'll contribute to platform stability, develop new features, and guide junior engineers. This role offers hands-on experience with ML infrastructure while operating with autonomy and applying industry best practices to solve real-world AI challenges.

Essential Responsibilities:
- Delivers complete solutions spanning all phases of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) (design, implementation, testing, delivery and operations), based on definitions from more senior roles.
- Advises immediate management on project-level issues
- Guides junior engineers
- Operates with little day-to-day supervision, making technical decisions based on knowledge of internal conventions and industry best practices
- Applies knowledge of technical best practices in making decisions
Expected Qualifications:
- 3+ years relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree OR Any equivalent combination of education and experience.

- Contribute to the stability and reliability of the AI Simulation platform by implementing, testing, and deploying high-quality solutions across the SDLC.
- Develop platform features and enhancements to support new use cases based on requirements from product teams and data scientists.
- Provide L2/L3 support for platform issues, troubleshooting and resolving technical problems with minimal guidance.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on platform improvements and ML model deployment infrastructure.
- Guide and mentor junior engineers on coding best practices, platform architecture, and technical problem-solving.
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to improving team engineering standards and processes.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong problem-solving skills and effective communication abilities to work in an agile/scrum team environment.
- Proficiency in Java development with experience in backend technologies and Spring framework.
- Familiarity with Big Data technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, HBase, Iceberg, or DeltaLake.
- Experience with Docker and Kubernetes for containerization and orchestration.
- Knowledge of GCP stack, including Bigtable, BigQuery, and GKE (Google Kubernetes Engine).
- Understanding of Linux systems and Bash scripting for automation tasks.
- Exposure to ML/AI platforms, data pipelines, or MLOps practices.
- Experience working across the full SDLC from design through operations.
