PayPal, Inc. seeks Sr Software Engineer in San Jose, CA

Job Duties: Analyze existing software architecture and create technical designs by working within PayPal's cross-functional technology team. Oversee the complete software development lifecycle - from discovery, design, solutions, build, and rollout utilizing experience delivering complex software projects and solutions effectively through Agile methodologies on a regular release cadence. Own the end-to-end quality of deliverables during all phases of the software development lifecycle using front-end languages and back-end languages during the development and testing phases. Develop industry-leading- and cutting-edge product capabilities for Micro and Small-Scale businesses globally and power everyday activities for PayPal to continue to grow and remove frictions using frontend programming skills, full-stack engineering, and JavaScript frameworks such as Angular JS, React, and Amber. Coordinate between business, product, and technology in the process of understanding the technical requirements and coming up with implementation options. Drive innovation through rapid prototyping and iterative software development. Ensure that the design and implementation adhere to defined specs and processes. Collaborate with core infrastructure teams to satisfy the infrastructure needs for payment solutions using experience with databases such as MySQL/Oracle etc. Provide leadership to others, particularly junior engineers who work on the same team or related product features, and ensure best practices with REST APls, Web Services, Unit Testing, and build tools. Partial telecommuting permitted from within a commutable distance.

Minimum Requirements: Master’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Engineering, or a closely related field plus five years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation.

Special Skill Requirements:

1. Experience structuring accessible semantic layouts as the foundation for React-based applications, ensuring consistency across devices and screen readers (5 years).

2. Experience building responsive, maintainable interfaces using CSS modules, Flexbox, and Grid, aligned with scalable design systems (5 years).

3. Experience implementing complex frontend behavior and client-side logic using modern JavaScript patterns across large-scale applications (5 years).

4. Experience designing modular UI components and managing state predictably using React hooks, context, and performance optimizations (5 years).

5. Experience developing backend services and REST APIs with Node.js, integrating with databases and third-party systems in production environments (5 years).

6. Experience using Git for version control and branching strategies that support team collaboration, code reviews, and continuous delivery (5 years).

7. Experience maintaining test quality with Jest-powered unit and integration tests into CI pipelines (5 years).

8. Experience leveraging TypeScript to enforce type safety and refactorability in multi-team React and Node.js codebases (3 years).

9. Experience configuring and optimizing Webpack for modular builds, enabling code splitting, lazy loading, and faster load times (3 years).

10. Experience setting up Jenkins pipelines to automate builds, testing, and deployments for React and Node.js projects across environments (3 years).

The base pay for this role will depend on where you work and the relevant experience and expertise you bring. The expected range of pay for this role by location is:

Primary Location | Pay Range:

San Jose, California | Salary: $187,741.00-270,500.00 per annum. 40 hours per week; M-F, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Additional compensation for this role may include an annual performance bonus, equity, or other incentive compensation, as applicable.
